My IT Dept Rant is how come when the IT dept fixes a problem, they write a ticket but when they can't figure something out, I never see a work ticket?

Because they're busy working on it?

Um no. I've called them on several seemingly simple things and its been a year and no response. I still have a problem with Outlook and email addresses not caching. Normally, I'd be able to start typing an address and the list of addresses starting with those letters pop up but it doesn't do it. The IT dept never figured it out.

Now I have a problem with CTRL C. Whenever I push CTRL C, it puts a shortcut into the taskbar in MS Office. They can't figure out what's wrong.

There are tons more examples of these problems I've had. They are nothing that will stop me from doing my work but annoying little problems.

1. Click tools
2. Click options
3. click the preferences tab
4. click email options
5. click advanced email options
6. under "when sending a message" make sure the "suggest names while completing To, CC, and Bcc fields" is checkmarked.

Couple of weeks ago, I phoned a user to shutdown their pc so I could physically move it to another location (office moves suck, but that's another thread). I go downstairs ready to grab everything and move, but as soon as I saw the optical mouse and the keyboard lights on, but the monitors blank, I ventured a guess as to what she did. She had turned off her monitors when I asked her to shutdown the pc.

Maybe she's just misusing the word spool? I don't imagine she'd put a ticket in if everything were working fine.

Hrm, you have a point.

(I still want her to die)

Maybe you should KILL her..?

I looked this up and completion date was showing as 02/01/05 on the website
see anything fishy about this submission?

Just reply with a calendar.

In the old days we used to download a small jpg and open it up in a word processor and paste the text in the email client and send it back as unreadable.

You guys don't give him enough credit. I'm sure he's smart enough to have tried that - if not, great, problems fixed. I only bring this up because I dealt with this last week. His outlook profile likely does not have a *.nk2 file associated with it. (Normally located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook) That is the file that caches the address info of the last 40 e-mail adresses used. The only way I was able to resolve the issue was to completely remove and reinstall outlook and then reconnect to the users saved .psts.

-hope this helps..

Thanks.

I'm pretty familiar with most of this stuff but I still get all these weird problems. The ctrl c one for example just popped up for no reason at all.

I tried getting IT to help me with it and they couldn't figure it out. They decided to wipe my profile on my lappy and reinstall an old one. They did it, nothing changed, I lost all my links and shortcuts and they said, "huh, what do you know" and left me to rebuild my lappy from scratch. I don't work for a small company either. We have 60K employees.
