it costs me $78/day to live in my house

rh71

No Lifer
mortgage/30 days.

not including utilities, etc. of course... but it does include property/school taxes.

You?

where in long island ? depending on where that may actually be pretty cheap.

Nassau and that's all I'll say on here.. it depends how much your downpayment was. This is our 2nd house so we used the 1st house for a good downpayment. We could've paid off even more but had to use the money to put in a new 2nd floor.

Dang. I thought my house payment was high.

are you including property taxes? Well yeah they're high here, but if you're going to compare figures, you should do taxes too. Our taxes currently make up $33 of that $78.

I just thought it was interesting to see the amount per day compared to say a hotel or renting.

Yeah that's an absurd payment for Texas taxes included. For that much you could get a 2500-3000sq ft house on about 5 -10 acres of land.

Less than $10 a day, but it's a rental with roommates, so that's not really comparable... But I like comparing it all the same just to see how much money I'm saving.

just misleading. you need to take out the money that goes into the principle portion. for the interest portion, you need to time it by your tax rate.

how do I determine my tax rate? Mine is listed as "tax rate per 100 of assessed value." And then it is itemized at a different rate for each of 21 different categories (19 for general taxes alone).

$104.46/day including insurance and property taxes

oh right, the mortgage includes escrow for insurance... good call.

I came up with about $22/day including utilities, taxes, insurance, and maintenance. This includes money I set aside monthly in a dedicated pot for long term maintenance costs (furnace, water heater, roof, etc.). Without that set aside, it would be about $18/day.
