I just recently graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration :( But I've been so interested and fascinated by computers and technology. I have a lot of competence in hardware, but not so much in software especially programming :disgust:. I was wondering if anyone knew of any careers in the computer field that I could do with a business degree. I love building computers and learning about new technology being offered. I was also considering studying for an M.S. in Business in Information Technology, what kind of jobs would be in reach if I got the MS?

It's difficult to break into the IT industry without experience and/or certifications.

The first thing you need to do is get some certs. A+ are the easiest and fastest, and should get you in the door as either a desktop tech or help desk tech. Then you can start working towards the MS certs and shoot for management. With a business degree you're ahead of the management game...

Get some management experience under your belt, and you can probably get a nice IT manager position, maybe even an IT director position too.

I'm in/was in the same position as you. Graduated last year with a bachelors in Business. In December started doing some customer service work for a small company and then it evolved into a small business development in e-commerce position as well as doing all their troubleshooting. I recently (through a friend) found a position where I'd be doing helpdesk and doing the support side of some of this company's MIS/systems side. (I'm probably going to get my A+ in less than a month here, taking classes over the core components for the MCSE as well) I'm still pondering over whether to take the new position or not though. Oh, and while a lot of people say the certs are useless - it sure as hell can't hurt you to get them.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that. I was looking to get the A+ cert. Did you guys take classes or read the book? There arent any specific A+ prep courses at the local colleges or at the university I used to attend... Thanks for the info so far :)

I'm just reading a book - Meyers 5th Edition. The A+ is easy enough (from what I've heard, I can't say since I haven't taken it yet) that only a useless n00b would take a class over it. If you have to take a class to pass the A+ b/c you can't get the knowledge from a book, certs/helpdesk isn't for you anyway.
