IT career question

My school had CS in engineering and CS in Arts and Science. The BA degree was more for the analysts and the BS was more for the programmer people. CS is not easy. If you think it is easy well, the more power to you. I don't think anyone at my school said CS was easy and we had some really smart folks in there.

Associates degree is not necessarily worth it, but it could be if you get in somewhere and then let your abilities take over, assuming you know computers.

Calc III is barely the hardest class in CS 😉 I wouldn't say its hard even though I pulled a C in it.. just a lot of homework that you would really want to know well.. which I didn't.

I dropped out of CS because of calculus. Now working on finishing an associates in networking technology. I am not sure what I am going to do after that.

The only cakewalk Math class in CS is Calc 1. After that there's Calc 2 and 3, Discrete Math, Probabilty & Theory of Statistics, and Differential Equations. 😛

The key in IT is the fact that technology advances at a fast rate.
Do not just get certified and a college degree and sit on that forever..
Continue learning new technologies, and specialize in all aspects of IT. Don't just be the computer network guru.. learn Database technology.. learn security... learn scripting... learn Unix...

Like some of you said, Certs are not all that. I work with a team of 5 also and 3 of us does not have any certs but we have a lot of training and experience.

I do plan to get my MCSE someday....

My anandtech mates are correct, you might have A+, N+, SECURITY+, MCSE, etc certs, but if you don't have experience on IT, you might get a job in HELPDESK and pray that you will advance. Otherwise, have someone inside to help you out to get an IT job as an entry level position. You will be better of with an IT degree but at the same time try to get a job to obtain experinece and see what you like, which field.
