I was out with my dad buying new shoes and some clothes from the New Balance outlet store. They had a sale for 20% everything, so I was stocking up on some athletic gear I've wanted. Anyway, I got to these nice shirts and realized, after 10 minutes of searching for one with a crew neck, that all the prices were different on the shirts and I didn't want to pay $30 before discount for it. Needless to say I was a bit frusterated.

All of a sudden an employee comes up to me and asks if I need help and I explain my plight - the shirt I want is $10 more than all the others! We get to talking. I found out he went to Syracuse and I was telling him that my uncle is a huge Syracuse fan and I spent a summer there taking classes. After about ten minutes of just chatting he says "you know what? I'm going to hook you up." I thought he meant he was going to get the price changed on the shirt, but nope... he gave me his discount - 45% off !!! on top of the 25%!!! Needless to say, I made out like a bandit completely by accident.

cliffnotes:
1. shirt more expensive than i thought
2. Employee and I start talking
3. Employee decides to give me his discount.

Sometimes it really pays to just talk to people. I didn't even want the discount - he was just an interesting guy.

Sometimes, making an employee's day is reward enough for me :)

But cheap New Balance stuff is always welcome ;)
