I'm currently in the IT Audit field (1 yr exp) and just passed a security exam (GIAC/GCWIN) and was thinking of switching to the IT Security field but I'm not sure which field will be better in the long run? Anyone who is in either care to shed some light? thanks.

Get out of IT entirely. All professions in IT are worse for you than cigarettes. You'll die less quickly if you become a heroine addict (and you'll probably at least have fun doing it).

I am moving back to Audit field. Planning to get CIA and CFE certs.

With SOX and all the messes from companies like Enron/Quest/etc., you will have a bright future with Audit.

Personally, I would go with Security because Auditing is boring.

If you like to write documents, process flow, presentations, go to IT audit. If you like implementing security related technology, go to IT security. Both will be needed in the long run, it depends on how good you are in either field and how much you like what you do.

IT Security Auditing. I worked in IT Security in a former life and every year we had a group from PWC audit our group for policy and technology compliance.

I used to work for them, definitely not fun to be on the receiving side of an audit, then again, being the auditor, it was as if we were getting paid to be hated...haha
