It's a couple of bottles of wine, so I guess we'll see how the packing materials performed.

It's happened to me twice. Apparently train derailments happen a lot.

I don't think it necessarily means that the train with the UPS car derailed, but it could be another train blocking the tracks.

Why don't you blow off a little steam while your shipment gets back on track. Maybe a sip of wine to calm you down.

That's legitimate go find a CSX or NS yard and watch some trains go through they will be packed with flat cars with UPS pup trailers.

Train derailments don't happen all that often on the main tracks (like highways) but they happen quite a bit more often within a rail yard. With most derailments, service can be restored within 24 hours. That doesn't mean things will be running at full capacity, just running.

Yes, another train in front of the one carrying your package could have derailed causing the delay. They would still list that as the delay so you would understand that it was something beyond their control.
