It ain't 2-2-2-5...

... but would this 3-3-3 memory be very limiting if I decide to overclock? It seems like AMD is going to stick with DDR for a while, and I can think of some uses for a RAM drive, so I want to get 1GB sticks if I can. Here're the specs:

http://www.ec.kingston.com/eco...partno=KVR400X64C3A/1G

The data sheet doesn't help me much, but here's part of what it says:

DESCRIPTION:

This document describes ValueRAM's 128M x 64-bit (1GB) DDR400 CL3 SDRAM
(Synchronous DRAM) memory module. The components on this module include sixteen
64M x 8-bit (16M x 8-bit x 4 Bank) DDR400 SDRAM in TSOP packages. This 184-pin
DIMM uses gold contact fingers and requires +2.6V. The electrical and mechanical
specifications are as follows:

FEATURES:

Clock Cycle Time (tCK) 5ns (min.) / 10ns (max.)
Row Cycle Time (tRC) 55ns (min.)
Refresh Row Cycle Time (tRFC) 70ns (min.)
Row Active Time (tRAS) 40ns (min.) / 70,000ns (max.)
Single Power Supply of +2.6V (+/- .1V)
Power (IDD0) 5.408 W (operating)
Operating Temperature 0o C to 70o C
Storage Temperature -55o C to +150o C
UL Rating 94 V - 0

EDIT: This is the only 1024MB RAM listed on the A8N-SLI QLV as being certified to be able to fill four slots (so far).

Sounds fancy but if you're gonna spend that kind of money on RAM, get Corsair XMS or OCZ EL Platinum with better timings.

No do not get Kingston Value RAM. Very unstable and doesn't OC well. I would highly reccommend Corsair Value Select. Much better quality and OCability than Kingston.

Ouch those are Valuerams? For 280 bucks? Man Corsair's cost 150...

PS - Does Kingston make anything good?

Not really. They are very large and have sacrificed quality for expansion. THey dont OC well and are very unstable. I would highly reccommend the Corsair Value Selects over these.

Haha, not trying to be biased but do think I hear the words "t h e r m a l t a k e" ringing in the back of my mind...

Okay, thanks a lot! I won't waste my money.

With some of this stuff, I'm such a newbie I feel like the idiot in the Vehix.com commercial who keeps calling all those dealerships. "Er, ahem. Do you have any four-by-fours on your lot? Are any of those by chance luxury models?"

My last three things to buy are an Asus A8N-SLI, a PSU, and RAM, and I wanted to get the last two ordered tonight.

*Whistles* 600w. Wow. Planning on SLIing two 6800Ultras?

Enermax isn't a bad company though, I use their Whisper II 470w. They could do a better job sleeving their cables though.

EDIT: Btw, nice choice on ram.

Thanks! Not right away, I'm not-- the little lady says I'm not buying jack for a while, after I get the motherboard. Maybe in a few months. I appreciate all the help.

Kingston stuff is fine, they make the memory for all the Compaq servers at work, and I use hyper-X in 2 of my PC's at home... it's great stuff.

as for VALUERAM not overclocking well.. does that come as a surprise?
WTF would you buy valueram for to overclock? that's just plain idiotic.

I have never used a 1 gig stick, but all the Kingston RAM I've ever gotten works great.
