Issues with two new systems with KT-7 mobos

heres the specs:
800 duron / 900 tbird
Abit KT7
256mb Micron
Chrome Orb CPU Cooler
Innovision Tornado GeForce2 MX
20gb Maxtor Diamondmax / 30gb IBM 75gxp
Monster Sound MX300
Linksys Etherfast 10/100TX NIC
no modem / Diamond Supramax 56k

- these are fresh installs of Windows; less than 24 hours old. I've installed DX7a, Winamp (on duron only), Quake3, and BG2 on both systems.
- both computers will hang after exiting the bios window; reset does not fix, I have to unplug the power cord for about 3-5 secs, plug back in, and boot up... bios settings are saved, but this is annoying. Sometimes this will also happen when I have Windows restart, or when I press the reset button. I have flashed the BIOSes, and have the newest vid card drivers.
- duron will hang randomly; it might hang when opening Quake3 after just turning the system on, or when minimizing Winamp after playing Quake3 for an hour. Happens a lot when playing MP3's on Winamp, and trying to minimize the window.
- on tbird, I try launching any game, and it hangs right after displaying the loadup screen (say the id movie for Q3 or the startup movies for BG2... there are more). The Dxdiag shows all the D3D functions are groovy. I downloaded the newest drivers for the GF2MX, flashed the BIOS, reinstalled Dx7... no avail. Even tried plopping a V3-3000 into it, and its having the same issue.
- Now, the Duron, which was randomly hanging... it's running into the same problem as listed above. After running into the problem twice (hanging trying to launch a game), now it wont boot into Win98 properly (hangs right after the network login). After running msconfig, I narrowed down the problem to be the boot menu in system.
- This is an Abit KT7 w/ Chrome Orb, so I did have to bend the capacitors outward. Not far, the angle is < 20°. However, I am wondering if this could be the issue? I read the SupaOrb review over at [H]ard|OCP, they had to do the same thing for it, but noticed no performance penalties.
-This is my first time working with the K7 core... my only prior AMD experience was K6-2 550. I myself have a P600, and have had no problems to date... I also have not used the Abit KT7 before, and I did not modify any jumpers on the mobo beforehand.

Thanks in advance!

Before wasting money on soundcards, get Aureal's 2048 reference drivers, disable Soundblaster emulation, and make sure that the MX300's are not sharing IRQ's. Even SB Lives have problems with the last 2 situations and I've seen people try and replace their mx300's and other Vortex soundcards with Live's just to have the same problems.

So unless you try the above suggestions, you'll be a schmuck, as the saying goes, "A schmuck and his money are soon parted"

what power supply are you using?

is it on the list that AMD has generated for acceptable power supplies?
