Issues after hardware upgrade with XP

Hello all,
I am looking at upgrading some hardware in my system (CPU/MB) and i dont want to go about reinstalling everything all over again. I remember a few years back when XP first came out doing such an upgrade would require a new install and i was wondering if there is anyway around this now? Any info would be helpful

upgrading the CPU alone would not require a new install. Its likely a new MB would require a reinstall, however. You could try seeing what happenes w/o a new install but my guess is unless you want to wade through and sort out lots of driver issues that won't be worth your time/effort. Besides, a reinstall is so minty fresh!

ya but then have to go thru and reinstall all the software (Office, games, programs etc) unless someone knows of someway to just get OS installed and have it pick all that up?

I just take out all the drivers for motherboard and GFX card and swap my motherboard over

ive never had a problem , always works fine

I had an EpOX 8RDA+ setup and i changed my Motherboard to a ABIT IC7 and P4 2.8 and i didnt need to do anything except uninstall all MB , GFX drivers before i switched the HDD over to the new CPU , MB

You don't need to do all that BS.

You just need to do a Repair Install. It will reinstall all device drivers, etc. but you won't have to reinstall all your s/w because it's still there and you won't even lose any of your settings.

Yeah , good call thats another way to do it , if you cant access the drive with the origonal motherboard it was setup on .
