Issue with MacBook (2008)

Hi all,

So my gf is using a Macbook (non-pro, black model) from 2008, and she is getting the following issue:

The machine becomes unresponsive and it needs to be restarted. Anybody know what could be the cause of this, and if so, any solutions?

Thanks!

Run a memtest? That looks a bit like VRAM corruption, and the standard MB's use the system RAM as VRAM since they lack dedicated GPU's. Even if it's not VRAM specifically, RAM is the first place I'd look for system instability.

All right, I ran the "quick" one and there weren't any problems. Running the extended one now. Thanks! I really hope that this isn't a hardware problem...new Macs are expensive.

Check the amount of installed memory.
Should be upgradeable to: 2x 2 Gb, if it currently has less than that.
Or even simply physically removing and re-installing the memory may be sufficient to clean off possibly oxidized electrical contacts.
