I used to have the divx 5.0 codec installed, encoded some video clips and played them just fine.

I upgraded to divx 5.1 to play some movies that required it (downloaded clips). Now I'm trying to go back down to 5.0 by uninstalling and now I have this problem. I even went back up to 5.1 and still the problem exists:

Windows Media Player 6.4 or 9 no longer plays any divx AVIs. It says it's not a supported format as if it doesn't know the decoder is there. Divx Player will play them, however. How do I get WMP6.4 to do it ?

uninstall all codecs and divx player. reboot. re-install 5.1 codec. if that still doesn't work, grab "gspot" (do a google search).

You can also download ffdshow (from sourceforge.net I believe) which can usually patch up codec mishaps.
