Issue with Buy.com

I recently ordered an Asus P5W-DH Deluxe mb from Buy.com when they listed it as being able to ship in 1 or 2 days. After 1 week of seeing "sent to warehouse" on my order status I read the details a little more closely and found that it was on backorder.

I sent a cancellation request assuming it would be cancelled within 24 hours. They wrote back saying that it could take 1 week or more to cancel. I find this unacceptable. They're just trying to get it in stock so they can send it to me and not lose an order. I understand that cancellations can't be accepted after the shipping process has been started, but they don't even have the mb in their possession yet.

After they told me it would be 1 week or more to process the cancellation, I wrote back stating that the package would be refused if shipped, and any charges to my account would be disputed with Visa. I got a mail back with them holding firm to their initial position.

The reasons I don't like this:

1: Item was said to be in stock(not), 1 week after I placed my order. They had plenty of time to update their page. I believe they're being purposely deceptive trying to take orders they can't fill.

2: they should be able to process my cancellation immediately. They don't have the merchandise on hand, so nothing is being shipped out.

To be fair all of this is posted in their terms of service that had I read more closely, would never have done buisness with them.

I feel that they could do a little more for customer service. It may not be a big deal to you all, but I won't be buying anything from them in the future.

Btw, I ordered the mb from Zipzoomfly and it was processed in 2 days and should be here by the end of the week :).

Edit: If this is in the wrong forum, Mods please move

Edit#2: Ok ok, I put this in the wrong section, my rig is in my sig, and I'm not really black(I only play one on Anandtech). Sorry, is there anything else? :p

lxskllr,

You may have a legitimate complaint regarding your case, but it does not rise to the level of a general consumer problem such as fraud or a history of poor business practices.

You are welcome to post your issue in the Brag & Moan thread or to start a thread in Off Topic if you want to discuss your options.

Thanks for understanding. :)

Agree, I'm sure the mods will move it. OP, you aren't alone. I went through the listing as in stock when it's really not BS with buy.com about 2 years ago. I got my item after about 3 weeks, and haven't bought anything from them since.

I remember when Buy.com first started up. It was hit or miss. I ordered my first CD burner from them (an HP 4X!!), and it showed up in like 48 hours. I ordered a book from them and they sent me two copies two weeks apart... and then weeks later sent me an invoice for the extra book.

They've not really gotten better, and I thought it was well known that they're slow and make lots of mistakes and they're unreliable. They're often inexpensive, though, so I order from them only when I don't care much about when I get the stuff... like books that I read fro pleasure or memory cards and stuff like that.

Yeah, Buy.com can really suck with their warehouse times and usually use the SLOWEST possible means to get your item to you. I decided to try them again last week and they still have yet to mark my item as shipped. I would cancel but I got a call from the shipper today saying that its left their warehouse...

The last item I ordered took 3 weeks to get here and the tracking number they gave me was bogus. Should've learned my lesson then

The problem is that unlike most other stores, BUY.COM is just a storefront
which funnels your orders to someone who can fulfill it.

My brother used to work for Ingram Micro, one of the biggest wholesalers
of computer equipment. Their main business is supplying computer parts,
such as displays, hard drives, printers, etc to big box stores such as Best Buy.

They got the contract, probably still have it, to do fulfillment for BUY.COM on
much of their computer equipment. BUY.COM's inventory is not real-time,
or even close to it.

If an item is in short-supply, or if you are in a hurry, I would not recommend BUY.COM
OTOH, I have purchased a number of books and some consumer electronics items
from them in the past, and received everything reasonably fast and at a good price.

Amazon, btw, does the exact same thing on a number of their products.

How exactly does a tit do a push-up in the snow?
