ISS begins flybys over the USA

The International Space Station (ISS) is about to make a remarkable series of flybys over the United States. Beginning this 4th of July weekend, the station will appear once, twice, and sometimes three times a day for many days in a row. No matter where you live, you should have at least a few opportunities to see the biggest spaceship ever built.

I talked to VA3CSA (for the uninformed that is a amateur radio callsign) aboard the ISS on field day 2 weeks ago. We made contact on its 3rd pass overhead.

If i could get out tonight there are 5 passes over me between 10:45pm & 5:00am tomorrow morning. First & last passes are magnitude -3.5 & -3.4 😎

Over the next 10 days most of the passes for me aren't very high in altitude, 20 degrees or less.

You can set up several different observing sites.
It will also track alot of other objects for you too. I forgot about the "ISS tool bag", should of went out last night, it was just about naked eye.

Cool, saw it tonight - was still light out enough where no stars could be seen, but still saw it.

Saw it, about 3 minutes from first view til it faded out. Even here in the cloudy and light-polluted northeast it was bright and easy to spot.

Sweet, I just saw it in Chicago. I didn't think I would see much as there is a lot of light pollution, but I was able to see it clearly moving across the sky. It was brighter than I expected, and it was moving really quickly. I will be going out to watch it as much as I can now, thanks for the link :thumbsup:

Thanks for link, Acording to nasa, it will fly over at 3:56AM tomarow morning for me. So hopefully if it isnt cloudy i will get the chance to see it with my new 10" telescope.

It should look like a very bright moving star.

Saw a cell phone satellite last year and that was how it appeared. Flared really bright for a few seconds then slowly faded away. Pretty sure the ISS is even bigger so it should be easier to see. Just have to make sure you are facing the right directions because it happens within a few seconds.

down here near irvine, it moved from the south to north east, it was definitely the brightest thing in the sky and at 45° it was pretty high up. The 10:47 flyover will be much lower in the sky at 13° and will be going roughly twice as fast in the opposite direction.
