Israel's role in the coming war.

The USA has invested billions of dollars over the years in military aid to Israel. Israel is supposed to have one of the world's top military forces, plus they have nukes. And they are also considered our only friend in the ME.

So what are they going to do when this next war starts? During our last war with Iraq, Israel did virtually nothing.....took a few hits from scuds. That's about it. The USA spent a lot of resources defending them while this was going on, and I'm wondering if this same senario is going to be played out again when the new war starts.

I know most of the excuses....If they fight, we will lose our Arab support, etc. These excuses are sounding pretty lame right now. Our support in the ME is very limited this time, as well as our support world-wide. We need all the support possible from every one of our allies, and this includes Israel. I have heard virtually nothing on this subject. Are we going to give Israel a free pass again? If so, why should we?

It's about time we get some return on our investment in Israel.....this is the time.

I think that you will find we spent all that cash the last time so that Isreal wouldnt open up a can of whoop ass.

To be quite honest, i feel we have isreal on a military leash.
They kicked the snot out of the region in the six-day war...the quickest defeat in history..not to mention it was a war fought on three sides...
I thnk you would find that were we to not intervene and talk to Isreal, this whole Palestine, Iraq and Msulim based countries attacking them would be dealt
with in a fast, powerful, military action.

They can mop the floor with anyone in the region....simple enough...the other states know it...but they know we wont let them.....
Simple enough.

My hardline opinion? We let them do what they want...
I am sick of all this Palestinian crap...they deserve what they get...period.

I do know we caused this whole thing by giving Isreal their state after World War-II and basically kciking out any curent occupants. That is our fault, simple enough.
but for the idiot muslim fanatics who rant about...😱ur mission is to destroy isreal" they dont get a say so...

The way I see it, we'll just sit quietly and do what we're told. Israel has no interest in getting involved in a war.

However, in the unlikely event that Israel is attacked, you can't be sure what will happen. If the Americans insist, we wont do anything. If the Iraqis manage to cause some serious damage, we could send some F-16s along with some heavy bombs back their way. In any case, it wont be anything drastic.

Throughout this whole conflict the Palestinians are going to want to cause all sorts of trouble, and they will most likely be kept on a very tight leash.

stop funding them with my money.

Which countries receive the most aid?

The top recipient is Israel, which gets about $2.1 billion per year in military aid?used mostly to purchase U.S.-made weapons?and $600 million per year in economic support. The second-largest recipient, Egypt, annually gets around $1.3 billion in military aid and about $615 million for social programs.

It's kind of fun pissing off a billion Muslems. They make exciting enemies with a whole different attitude toward dying. Kind of adds intensity to your day.

Yes, and it must have been fun for the Muslims to piss off the USA. The USA makes better killing machines.

Well, on second thought it is a tricky situation..... Sometimes it is in our best interest and the interst of the whole free world for us to support a country that is fighting our enemy....

I wonder how much stronger the Russians might have been if they were to capture Afghanistan?

well, okay, in that situation yes. but i mean most of the time.

What I'm really asking here is are we going to fight this war, spend the money, count the USA body-bags, while at the same time Israel sits back and does nothing, much like they did the last time?

I find that completely un-acceptable from a moral standpoint. We help Israel....they do nothing to help us. Why do they deserve any monitary help from the USA, if they will not help us when we need the help? With Israel and the USA fighting a war against Iraq....the whole thing could be over in a few days, with a minimum of USA casualities.

As it stands now, the USA is going to spend the money, suffer the loss of life, and when it is all over, Israel will benefit the most......

The Mentality and Geography of the Middle East will not allow us to align ourselves with Israel as "Agressors" in a war with a Middle Eastern Country.

We are infinitely better off if Israel stays out of this war.

We are getting support...basing and logistical support...which would be MUCH more difficult to get from the Arab states in the area if Israel was involved. Besides, if Israel were to get involved, if you seem to suggest, every maniac in the world would paint the war as "The Jews and their supporters against Islam". We are trying NOT to paint this as a war against Islam.

If Israel gets involved, it will probably be because an Iraqi SCUD with a biological/chemical payload has hit Israel. If so, God help us all...because Israel has stated that if attacked with WMD's, they will respond with WMD's. They don't have biological or chemical weapons. That leaves only a nuclear response...and it is better for EVERYONE concerned if that genie stays firmly bottled.

Interesting characterization of Israel in the last war. Wrong, but interesting. Israel sat by not because they wanted to, but because we strongly suggested they do. As in told them. People have their panties in a bunch over 9/11, but demand that Israel to take far greater damage proportionately without responding. We have asked (told) them a few times, but Sharon will not give a flying fsck about US policy if they are attacked by Iraq. You are going to get your moneys worth. Afterwards, you might wish you did not.

Are you f#$*% nuts?? Think about that real carefully. ISRAEL attacking an Arab Country at the same time the US is. Talk about opening the gates of hell...

As I thought I would, I'm hearing the same old excuses as always, when it comes to getting help from Israel. At the very least, they could help us finance the war.....under the table if necessary. They could voice moral support for our war against terrorism. They could publically volunteer support of some sort.

But I'm seeing nothing. We're fighting their war....they're doing nothing.

Israel doesn't have the money to finance any meaningful portion of the war. They are alread the only country in the world where the majority support an invasion of Iraq in no uncertain terms.

So, bringing DEMOCRACY to the Middle East ONLY helps Israel????

WOW.. maybe you could enlighten us to how that is true?

Israel will still be surrounded by
Egypt
Libya
Syria
Palestinians
Jrdan
Sudanese

They all love Israelis................................................................ (for lunch)

Sometimes the best thing someone can do is shut up and stay out of the way. If I say don't put a loaded gun to your head and pull the trigger, then you respond with "getting the same old reasons" not to blow your brains out of your skull, does not make you suddenly clever for ignoring that advice. Israel getting involved WILL make things harder for us. If that is your goal, then congrats, because you could not have come up with a better plan.

justint.....Do you think the USA has the money to fight this war? Well we don't...we'll just be going further in debt to finance it. Israel could refuse further aid from the USA, those billions of dollars going to partially pay for this war. But I'm seeing no help at all....

This is very true. In the Gulf War, Israel very much wanted to retaliate and we spent a lot of diplomatic effort to keep them out of the show. The whole idea of Saddam sending scuds their way was to get them involved and so hopefully bring other Arab nations into the fray or at the very least divide the coalition. This time it will be more of the same but it's going to be very tough to keep Sharon calmed down. If something serious happens, and I'm guessing Saddam will very likely lob a couple of chemical or biological weapons Israel's way if possible, there's no way Sharon will sit still for it. Saddam knows he's on the outs this time and hasn't anything to lose; this scenario seems likely to me.

Where are our NATO Allies....... ?

Who gave us funding when we Destroyed the Nazis?
