Israeli tank fires on Egyptian troops

Seems like they like killing anyways..

Nice of them to murder people .. and then regret it after the fact.

dahunahan, military accidents happen all over the world, are you prepared to call everyone involved in such an accident a murderer?

I suggest you read the actual article, take a look at the facts at hand and edit your post.

Egypt Demands Israel Explain Killing of 3 Policemen

Egypt protested angrily to Israel on Thursday and demanded a full explanation after an Israeli tank crew killed three Egyptian policemen at the Egyptian-Gaza border.

"While condemning and protesting strongly at this regrettable incident, Egypt demands the Israeli authorities hold an immediate, full and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement."

Hours earlier Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon called Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to apologize. Israel said its troops had mistaken the Egyptians for a group of Palestinian militants who were planting explosives against Israeli forces.

"President Mubarak seemed to accept Sharon's apology for this tragic incident," an Israeli official source said.
The reaction sounds pretty sane. They're angry but realize it was probably due to negligence rather than malice.

BTW, these were police and not troops

But then, the Egyptians are neither their allies nor their main source of income.

Israel isn't even a country of it's own.

If the US withdrew its support, Israel would be demolished overnight.

Who is going to destroy Israel? Egypt is not going to attack Israel. Saudi Arabia is surely not going to attack them. Palestine has no army. Lebanon can easily be defeated. Syria will not do anything unless Israel attacks them. Iran can only launch missles at Israel for their missle strikes. I don't see Israel getting defeated nor do I see any wars in the future, except for Iran which will be just an air/missle war IMO.

Israel can take very good care of itself and does not need the U.S. The weapons the U.S sells to Israel they also sell to Egypt/Saudi Arabia. They also give almost the same money they give Israel in grants to Turkey and Egypt.

All Egypt/Saudi Arabia have to do is ask for the military weapons they want and it has to be approved and so far they have been approved (of course we won't sell them top top top notch weapons but we will sell them good ones if they ask). Saudi Arabia is already asking for billions in new weapons and the deal is expected to pass (mostly new fighters, helicopters, tanks, etc). It's a matter of how much they want to spend. Saudi Arabia spends a LOT of money on their military and so does Egypt.

The region is balanced IMO. Israel/Saudi Arabia/Egypt.

Israel develops a lot of their weapons as well. I do not know if Egypt/Saudi Arabia have such programs, but I suspect they do.

Seriously. If Israel were ever involved in a war with its neighbors, it wouldn't stand a chance!

If there were five wars between Israel and its neighbors, people would be like "Israel what? Who? I haven't heard of them unless they were that country that was destroyed thorougly...FIVE TIMES!"

No they can't. Israel NEEDS the US. If the US decided to ignore Israel, they'd be overrun in 24 hours by 20 different nations.

Yeah Taejin do some research -- Israel has been very successful in it's past wars with its neighbors.

I think in Israel every able-bodied man of age is a member of their military reserves. So if need demands it, the whole country will rise up.

Aimster's point is -- so do Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

If the US ignored (stopped trading, stopped selling arms, stopped funding) ANYONE, that ANYONE would suffer greatly.

Read Aimster's post again, she says it better (and is very likely more knowledgable on the issue than you or I) than I could.

Also, 24 hours? So you think the political threat from the US is what's stopping the invasion of Isreal?

Israel's army is AT LEAST as powerful as that of Egypt or Saudi Arabia. Again, look at when Israel warred with multiple neighbors simultaneously, and won.

IIRC, the US didn't start giving large amounts of foreign aid to Israel until 1970. Is there any reason Israel's neighbors didn't choose to overrun Israel in the years before that? (In 24 hours)

You simply don't get it. As far as defensive forces go, Israel has one of the most powerful armies on earth. This includes around 3,650 tanks of which approximately half are extremely capable Merkava models. Israel also has around 12300 APCs!
http://www.globalsecurity.org/...ael/army-equipment.htm

Israel also has around 357 Modern advanced fighters and a couple hundred older combat airplanes either active or available in reserve.

The reality is that Isreal's extremely capable military is capable of defeating all the countries that have borders with Israel if they attacked simultaniously. With Isreal's 100-200 nukes, the number of nations willing to actually attack Israel directly should be fairly limited.
