Israeli 'neo-Nazi gang' arrested

Yes, indeed, one of those 'WTF?' moments!

Israeli police say they have broken up a gang of neo-Nazis who are accused of carrying out attacks on foreigners, gay people and religious Jews.
The eight suspects, aged 16-21, are all Israeli citizens from the former Soviet Union. They were arrested a month ago, but the news only emerged on Saturday.

The gang members sported tattoos popular with white supremacists - including the number 88, code for Heil Hitler because "H" is the eighth letter of the alphabet.

Police say the gang members would target homosexuals, Jews who wore a skull cap and drug addicts, often video taping their attacks.

The suspects all migrated to Israel under the Law of Return which allows anyone with at least one Jewish grandparent to become a citizen.

Ms Almog said of the accused, "their connection to Judaism is distant, through grandparents or distant family connections".

Russians with at least one Jewish grandparent migrating to Israel, and then beating up people for being foreigners or Jewish??

Almost all extremist and/or heavily religious groups seem to hate homosexuals, but it's beating up foreigners while they are foreigners themselves what really baffles me. Are they simply violent for the violence, or are they really that blind to the world around them?

In Russia, as in just about every other country in the world, there are idiots who think that Hitler was right in wanting everyone who is different dead. They just skip the parts they dislike (about them being one of the groups he wanted dead for example) and focus on proclaiming themselves superior and targetting others.

Usually this behavior comes with an IQ under 50 and permanent baldness.

It's not that odd after you read the part about them having really distant Jewish blood. I just wonder then why they would have moved to Israel, unless their mommies and daddies forced them and these dorks don't know how be self sufficient

To answer your question you must understand a couple of things about Israel first.
Israel's immigration law states a couple of things:
1. You can NOT be granted Israeli citizenship unless you're Jewish born or converted. Yes there are exceptions to the rule, but it'll probably be much easier for a Mexican to get a greencard here than an Israeli one.
2. If you are Jewish, you hit the jackpot! -> Israel would not only pay for all of your immigration expenses, but you will actually get paid and be exempt from most state's taxes for a several years, you will also participate free of charge in programs which will help you blend in, i.e. learn the language find a job etc.
Now, suppose you're a Russian douche and have no money no brain and no future, and your country is falling apart, you hear your Jewish neighbors are taking off to get all that money and live in a modern country, you go to the Israeli embassy or whatever they use, and you tell them your great grandmother was Jewish or that you are one or whatever, its not like it is such a big deal forging old Russian documents, I mean it probably takes some toilet paper and something to write on it with, and there you go, a Russian passport...
I hope that explains why the lowest of scum will be attracted to take advantage of Israel's immigration laws.

I can't tell from your tone whether you approve, disapprove, or have any opinion as to the
Israeli immigration laws per se. As to the jackpot comment, I would note that the reason Israel provides a haven for Jews is because in the last 1000 years they have been expelled as a people from pretty much every country they've lived in, or been outright exterminated. I think a little piece of land where they can feel welcome isn't too much to grant them. And I don't think Jews born before Israel was established would claim they hit the jackpot, certainly not those in 1940s Germany.

Well, if you look at it "as it is" Israel does have some discriminating immigration laws, though when you consider the fact that it is the only Jewish oriented country in the world some of it does make sense.

The point is that these are not people who moved to Israel and are genuine Israeli immigrants, these are mostly the children of Russian Israeli immigrants parents who expected to come to Israel to find a land of milk and honey, and instead find heavy competition for land and jobs. And these kids grow up as the have nots and somewhat discriminated against, they seek someone to blame and someone to embrace, and Hitler is sometimes that something to embrace. The same thing happens in Europe when Muslem parents immigrate to Europe and the results are equally anti-social even if they embrace someone else.

In short, I believe this has nothing to do with sematism, anti sematism, and everything to do with human nature. No society including the USA is immune.

I dont get it, i know there are Christians who are citizens of Israel. so how does that work?

Americans poking into another country's business again in this case.

And neighborhood over run without desire to assimilate into native culture.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
"However, American Jewish charitable organizations objected. These organizations had been asked by Israel to raise funds for the exodus of Jews, and they protested any proposed in the Israeli government definition of "Who is a Jew?"

In the mid-1990s, the Jewish Agency for Israel sponsored ads in the major Russian papers that proclaimed that "If you have a Jewish grandparent, you can qualify for citizenship in Israel under the law of return." That law also provided immigrants with a basket of free services for at least three years.

In 1997, a member of Israel's Knesset Parliament, Alex Lubotzky, a liberal-minded Orthodox Jew, announced that he was ready to check out all conversion possibilities to provide all options of conversion for new immigrants. However, in December 1997, Lubotzky announced that of the 200,000 non-Jews who had arrived in Israel under the law of return, less than 2,000 expressed any interest whatsoever in becoming Jewish.

Instead, a Russian culture overtook many neighborhoods where former USSR residents established themselves, totally devoid of anything Jewish or anything Zionist.
