Israel to Purchase ALH from India to Ferry VIPs

JERUSALEM --- Israel is expected to purchase indigenously developed Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv, from India for transportation of VIPs and defense officials, a media report said here.

Talks were on between the two sides over the deal, Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) spokesman Doron Soslik was quoted as saying by 'Ha'aretz' daily.

The terms of the deals are yet to be finalized, he said.

IAI and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited have joined hands to market Dhruv.

IAI, which has supplied the avionics system and glass cockpit for the 'international version' of the ALH, has been negotiating with the Israel Air Force on the deal.

The Israel Air Force dispersed its light helicopter squadron a year ago.

The deal is said to be part of the reciprocal procurement from India in exchange for its purchase of the Phalcon early warning system.

IAI officials told PTI that a joint team from India and Israel recently performed helicopter tests in Chile, which has shown keen interest in procuring Dhruv for its combined armed forces.

US Customs are also likely to purchase Dhruv, which is said to have proven reliability even in battlefield conditions, defense sources said.

The ALH set a new world record by flying at an altitude of around 8,000 meters in the Himalayan mountain ridge.

well its big for india, the ALH or the "augmented light helicopter" if im right is multirole. Its been in development for a while now. I remember reading it in AIAA journal that my dad subscribes to. Supposed to be one of the better helicopter designs out there, faster and flies higher. Flying at heights of 8000 meters is no joke. I know the IAF does fly routine sorties with their chetaks up to leh which itself is a feat.

Well, considering plenty on these forums seem to think most countries in Europe are third world countries, it isn't very surprising that people don't realize how badly some spots in America are. And it is even less surprising that many don't realize that, while a huge portion of the country is still poverty stricken, there is also a very large part of India that is doing quite well.

Radicals already attack India, so that would not be anything new. I believe that even their Parliament was attacked a few years ago.

India has 120 million Muslims. The only Muslims that might hate India are Pakistan. Why don't you do a little background on the history of both countries and you might learn something.

hmm there are some extremists that do. like what about all those foreign muslim fighters recruited to sneak across Indian lines and launch guerilla assaults? Before Iraq their two favorite places to go were Chechnya or Kashmir.

Such as who? You are assuming Pakistan = 100% Pakistani. I'm sure Pakistan has their minorities. How can any of them survive in Pakistan without speaking the language? If you are suggesting the Taliban from Afghanistan, well the Taliban = Pakistanis.

 
Just wanted to also say that India also sells arms to other nations in the M.E besides Israel. Such as advanced radar equipment to Iran and technology to Syria.
