Israel steals more land

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has approved the final route of a barrier around Jerusalem that will include the largest Jewish settlement in the West Bank on the Israeli side, officials said today, prompting Palestinian complaints that Israel is endangering fledgling peace efforts.

The decision means Israel will take lands claimed by the Palestinians for a future state, including traditionally Arab east Jerusalem, the intended Palestinian capital.
The barrier will also encompass a chunk of the Palestinian town of Bethlehem, south of Jerusalem, to include a Jewish shrine, officials said.

Annan said the UN position on the barrier is clear. The UN General Assembly has passed a resolution against the barrier, and the United Nation's world court said in an advisory ruling last year that the barrier is illegal and must be torn down.

Will they ever stop with this thievery?

Luckily UN is getting a bit more involved in monitoring how Israel is grabbing Palestinian land piece by piece. At least this way the world will get a clearer picture of Israel?s robberies.

Let?s hope that Abbas can hold back terrorists from reacting to this provocation.

"Nor could Sharon give up West Bank settlements, even were he disposed to do so. His plan to exit Gaza has already split his coalition and provoked calls for his assassination. Hundreds of rabbis have urged Orthodox soldiers to defy orders to remove settlers from Gaza.

Sharon is prime minister because he campaigned against Barak?s policy of trading ?land for peace.? And if he is going through hell to get Israelis to yield Gaza, does anyone think he could, or would, try to convince Israelis to abandon West Bank settlements he himself implanted and pledged to retain forever?"

Stole the land from whom? The land is part of Israel. Israel took the land from Jordan in a war in 1967. The land has never been Palestinian and there has never been a Palastinian state. Jordan took the land after the British abandoned it. Britain took the land when they beat the Ottoman Empire in WWI. The Ottomans took the land from the Byzantine Empire which was the Eastern portion of the Roman Empire which took the land from the country of Israel and kicked the Jews out.

So I ask who did Israel steal land from? Jordan?

This true however and a big however.

I have personally spoken to quite a few Jews on this the past few weeks in fact.

They do not recognize the Palistinians as a separate people.

Therefore they feel they are not entitled to any of their own land and not be recognized as a Soveign Nation.

They want the Palistinian people to be absorbed by the neighboring Arab Countries.

That being said the neighboring Arab Countries want nothing to do with the Palistinians, in fact the Palistine people were thrown out (exiled) of Jordan.

With the attitude the Jews have towards the Palistinians I can see there never being peace in that region, it just isn't going to happen. Both sides would rather die than give an inch literally.

The United States recognizes Israel. So does Britain and France. Btw, what do you mean by "as you like to put it?"

It goes both ways here. The Israelis are stuck with a group of people who they dont want. The palastinians are left in a grey area from a legal standpoint. And the terrorists want to keep this way.

name one country in the world that recognizes Israel as you like to put it?

Try the UN

You've spoken to Jews? WOW!!!! ;-)

Sorry. I couldn't resist. I know I should have tried harder. I am Jewish

It is certainly true that Jordan didn't want to have much to do with the Palastinians, especially after Arafat tried to have King Hussein assassinated (which is why the PLO went to beruit - which is why Israel went into Lebonan - which is why...)

Are you really suprised that Israel is building a fence? You need to some reading. When The UN mandated Israeli and Palestinian states and Britain pulled out, Israel was attaked by Jordan, Syria, Egypt, et al. Israel's neighbors swore to drive the Jews into the sea. Israel has fought wars in 1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973. In recent years, Israel hasn't been attacked by armies. Instead, Israel gets attacked by kids who are willing to blow themselves up as long as they can take a few Jews with them. these kids families get paid for their kids blowing themselves up. Is it wrong for Israel to build a fence?

Are you guys really suprise that the Jews aren't going to allow the Palestinians to have East Jerusalum? It is the most holy place for Jews in the world. It is the site of King Soloman's temple, of which only the wailing wall still stands. Every year, Jews say the same phrase at passover sedar, "next year in Jerusalum, next year in Jerusalum." When Jordan controlled East Jerusalum, they wouldn't let jews in to go pray. When Israel took East Jerusalum they still allowed Muslims to go pray at the Dome of the Rock (the third most holy place for Muslims). There is no way Israel will give up the Holy City.

Do you really think Israel doesn't want peace? Do you really think that Israel isn't going to give land to the Palestinians? The Palestinians would have there own country now if it wasn't for Arafat. When Clinton was President, ehud Barak got together with Clinton and Arafat and negotiated. Barak acquiesced to every demand. Everyone of Arafat's demands besides one, East Jerusalum. Arafat wouldn't compromise. With Arafat dead, I think we will have peace.

The same UN resolution whic partitioned land to Israel partitioned land to Palestine. It's funny how you only like to look at one side of the coin though.

I didn't overlook it. Jordan did. In 1948, Jordan took the West Bank. At the same time, egypt took the gaza strip. The UN didn't care. They passed no resolutions condemming Jordan and Egypt. No effort was made to give the Palestinians a homeland while Jordan and egypt controlled the land. Then Israel takes the land during an attempt to drives the Jews into the sea, and all of a sudden, Israel is evil for not giving the palestinians the West Bank. It is anti-semitism.

The US does. taking land as part of a war is a long standing tradition. Look at Alsace-Lorraine. Look at the British Empire pre-WWII. Israel needed the land so that it wasn't less then a day tank drive from one end of Israel to the other. Israel will end up giving up the land. They just want to be sure that they won't be annihilated for it.

There are no "Palestianian" people, that was an invention of Arafat in the '60's. They are generic Arabs.

Oh Boo Hoo! If everyone was "out to get" Israel why would Israel exist right now in the first place? Someone had to have voted for Israel in that resolution, and someone had to have recognized the state of Israel afterwards, so your argument makes absolutely no sense and is a poor attempted use of the anti-semitism card.

That resolution was never implimented. The Arab coalition walked out and started a war, Israel won that war and was recognized as a seperate state by the world. The UN never created Isreal or Palestine, they passed a resolution that the arabs walked out on and now want the UN to impliment it after 5 failed wars against the Nation of Israel. Israel is self-declared and there has never been a palestine.

Hmm..

Arab: A member of a Semitic people originally from the Arabian peninsula and surrounding territories who speaks Arabic and who inhabits much of the Middle East and northern Africa.

Israel's policies are anti-semitic indeed. Two can play at that game. 😉

Here's another viewpoint on this topic. Give it a look.

"Generic arab"? Riprorin, you're pathetic. So there are no Iraqi people? No Saudi people? No Egyptian people? No Lybian people? Etc. etc.? Do you know who said that there are no Austrian people and quickly made Austria part of the Third Reich?

The land was barren and desolate. It's been well described by Mark Twain in "Innocents Abroad." Nomadic Arabs moved in out but it wasn't until Jews developed the land and created economic opportunity in the late 1800's that Arabs began to settle in large numbers.

Why did Arafat create the myth of the "Palestinian" people: because it provides justification for Arab occupation of Israel.

That's the Israeli side of the story. The other side says that the Israelis provoked conflict. But what does it matter? The UN resolution partitioning the land doesn't just become VOID after some hostilities, and that's reinforced by the repeated references to the "GREEN LINE" by UN resolutions to this day!
