While I know nothing about the Israeli legislative process, it doesn't appear the bill is law yet, there are still hurdles. Still, the fact that such a bill even has a reasonable chance of becoming law is pretty sad. Denying someone the right to peacefully commemorate some event in history does not change history, and it most certainly does not create "more unity" as the bills sponsors are claiming. It strips away basic human freedoms, and if anything, it's going to create a LOT more anger and resentment. Stupid Isreali legislators.....

The Germans have similar statutes around denial of the holocaust, but that's different than trying to punish people for recognizing a fact. Of course, the German laws are useless in terms of spreading right-wing hatred anyway, as anyone with half a brain could have predicted.

Einstein was right, there doesn't appear to be a limit to stupidity.

Don't worry, it's okay to say it, many (possibly most) Irish people are assholes, English people certainly account for a large proportion of assholes; the Americans, they might even have a monopoly on it in terms of sheer numbers and so on and so forth.

The problem in this thread, as in many other threads regarding Israel, is that there seems to be reticence to criticise Israel and its actions in many quarters of this forum. Sorry folks, Israel, like all other countries, is open to severe criticism (perhaps more than most) and in this case, should be severely criticised. Try to bear that in mind before the thread inevitably dissolves into a pointless assignation of blame and mutual recriminations.

Incidentally, the BBC report linked in the OP points out that much of the criticism against this bill was voiced by other Israelies.
