ISP Problems, Email sent with problem and Settings

Hello,

While using my router I experience an extremely slow internet connection. Pages can take up to 4 minutes to load, sometimes only working when I refresh the page (pages hang on 'waiting for...'). Downloads will pause and only work after I pause and restart them. Netflix's "Watch Now" feature will take over an hour to buffer due to the slow connection. Youtube clips will take 2-3 minutes to load sometimes stopping 1/2 way through without ever completing.

When the router is disconnected and my desktop is plugged directly into the wall the speed increases a bit, but still is extremely slow. Using applications that process a lot of requests sometimes kills the connection all together. This happens (with and without the router) everytime I refresh the server list for Team Fortress 2 (PC game) and everytime I visit Housingmaps.com (a craigslist and google map mashup site). Once the connection is lost, it will take 5-15 minutes to reset.

Please let me know what I can do to increase the speed and consistency of my connection.

The systems is designed to protect itself from ?Flooding?. If your connection performs more than 100 Windows Sessions per second the router will shut down the port for 10 minutes.



I did notice that the MTU setting on your router was 1500. You would experience an erratic connection if you were getting fragmented packets. That will cause very poor performance. This link http://www.dslreports.com/faq/5793 will take you to the instructions on setting the correct MTU for your connection. Usually it is 1492. Not having the proper MTU setting will degrade your connection.

Does this seem like the problem? Anyone else have a suggestion? this is a shared internet connection through Tenant Internet Services, Inc. for a highrise.



 
You don't say what the WAN connection type is, but if it's DSL, then changing your MTU to ~1492 would be a good thing.

Try the DSL Reports link provided to tweak your settings.
 
I've done a speedtest and it either never finishes, or it finishes and does very well. Its definitely a consistency issue. Im almost positive its DSL. I however dont pay for it. It's included in my owner's HOA. (I just rent my place).
