Most likely it's just a bandwidth issue. My ISP monitors bandwidth and keeps statistics. I can view them any time myself. If you well over your quota you get a warning call, repeat offenders then get a 1 week suspension and then get cut off.

bit torrent protocol is open - they know the names of the files you are downloading.

they will notice if you download something like LordOfTheRings.bEsT.divX.eVeR.avi.torrent

Now...I do not use kazaa. I do use bittorrent and Ares(kazaa like program).

Are they catching me when I fileshare using Ares or bittorrent? Have any you guys have your ISP do this to you?

Bittorrent seems to attract attention. Try emule?

I wonder if this works? Might be useful if the police/ lawyers come bursting thru your door.

If you won't stop shareing then at least disable uploads. if you're uploading it's like 10x's worse than downloading as far as painting a nice big bulseye on yourself anyway.

I know it's not completely safe, because BT uploads as it's downloading, but the only things I actually seed are the newest episodes of the OC. As soon as whatever else I'm downloading is done I close it out. It's not how the BT network works I know, but it's better than losing my cable internet (only one single broadband ISP out where I'm at).

RIAA and the MPAA know exactly which files you are sharing. In their cease and desist letters they have your ISP send to you, it lists what you were sharing. Some ISPs are more proactive than others about following through.

I'd recommend protowall or peerguardian in order to stop agencies from snooping on your shares. Other than that, to be perfectly safe, abstinence is key. ;) Keep away from sharing music/movies.

What can I do?

Raise $30,000. Then get a good lawyer. Then you can use your $40/month connection however you want for months.

Parthian89, I recommend checking out Adelphia's great newsgroup service. Only 5GB/month, but you get good speeds and retention. :)
