ISP Dialer software Won't Work with New Modem

I have been using Access4Less for about six months with no problems. I installed a new Creative Blaster v.92 modem and now the A4L dialer won't connect.

I am able to connect if I go into NETWORK CONNECTIONS and select the A4L connection listed and click CONNECT.

I tried uninstalling the modem drivers and the dialer program but had the same results.

The modem is on COM4.

The modem works, why won't the dialer program work?

software, hardware conflict. What about registry settings? Can you create a shortcut of the A4L connection and put it on your desktop? Are losing any functionality by doing that?

Not sure about what you're referring to.....

The A4L dialer program is tiny, real bare-bones.

I just d/l'ed the driver from Creative's site so I will see what that does.

Funny thing is when I connect through network connections i hear the modem click and then get a dialtone, etc.

When I try to connect throught the A4L dialer, no click and an immediate error message....

thanks.

Yeh don't use dialer programs if your can just set up a connetion in network and log in, most dialer programs are useless but some isps won't let you connect if you don't use their dialer program. Also when you set up a connection in network, you can opt to redial and connect again when they kick your off after like 4 hours, most dialup isps do that, their is setting in the properties of the connection.

Hmmmm.....never knew that. BTW, I was able to load NetZero and it's dialer worked!?

So just throw a shortcut to Network Connections on the desktop and use that, huh?

dudleydocker, the A4L dialer is probably using it's "DUN connectoid", that was created when the software was installed. That "connectoid", should show up if you right-click "My Network Places" and select "Properties...", along with any other dialup and LAN connections that you have.

You probably need to right-click on the connectoid and select "Properties...", and tell it to use your newly-installed modem device, instead of the old one that you used to have installed.

This assumes that there is a connectoid. Some dialers dynamically-create them and then delete them after disconnection, to try to prevent people from directly using a DUN connection rather than their dialer program.

If that is the case, then there should be some settings within the program to select which modem on the system to use. If nothing else works, copy down your username, password, DNS server, gateway, mail/news/other servers, and then un-install and re-install their dialer software. It should hopefully pick up the new modem. If the old modem is still showing up in "Device Manager', then you may want to delete that as well, before re-installing the dialer software.
