ISOs and Multisession

Hi, I have an ISO software image that's about 1.2GB, and I'd like to burn it to a 4.7GB DVD. But I think that's an awful lot of wasted space, 3.5 GB. Must I finalize the DVD in order for the software to function? Or can I make a multisession DVD and still have it work?

**An option is to burn the actual .iso file to a DVD. I can then safely multisession, but I'll have to copy the .iso to my hard drive and extract it using ISOBuster -- I'm not sure if this will work either, maybe because of some copyright protection or validation or something that requires the DVD be in the drive. If anyone has answers to the question in the above paragraph I'd appreciate it. Thanks**
