Isopropyl Alcohol

Hey gang...

Odd question perhaps. Anyone know where a person can buy
high-purity (99%+) grade Isopropyl alcohol? Used for cleaning microcomponets.

Checked like 8 different stores awhile back for the stuff. Ended up going with Electronic Contact Cleaner for some stuff, and tape head cleaner for others. (Combination of several different types of alcohol, worked like a charm)

You could always boil the highest % rubbing alcohol you can find at a drug store to get some high concentrations. Saw someone doing that before, don't know what % can be attained by boiling.

Fractional distiller can get it up to 91%, then it forms an azeotrope. It will then have to be distilled through dessicant to make it anhydrous. Not your average home project.

Dude that would vaporize the alchohol due to it very low boiling point

Careless boiling, heating and distillation of flammable liquid is a serious fire and explosion hazard. Distilling alcohol on a stove top is far more dangerous than pouring gasoline into a lawn mower.

I get my Reagent Grade (99% pure) iso alcohol at chemical supply places. Look in the yellow pages. It costs around $8/pint. I've been buying it this way for 20 years. I use it for cleaning LPs.
