i am looking for a peace of hardware that will act as a switch for 5 computers but will also give access to a larger network that is connect to the internet. would something like the linksys wrt45g do the job but i also dont wasnt the wireless accsess. pleasa advise thanks.

so would you just plug the connection to the larger network into the internet port on the router and the computers i want to put into the subnetwork into the other ports in the back? and that will alow me to network just those computers only but still give access to the internet on them

I'd recommend three routers.

Internet in to WAN port on Router 1

Router 2 and Router 3 connected to LAN side of Router 1 via their WAN ports.

Large Network on LAN side of Router 2 and small network on LAN side of Router 3.

This would keep both the large and small network seperated and allow them Internet access.
