ISO a good variable speed angle grinder

I am lookin for a decent angle grinder thats reasonably priced. Makita, Milwaukee, Metabo & Flex all make one. I never heard for Flex or Metabo. The application would be grinding out some dry rot from the bulkhead in a boat's bildge. The wood is wrapped in fiberglass and its double marine plywood. We think not all the wood is rotted, so we wanna procede cautiously and only grind out the rotted parts. That why the machine should be variable speed. Any & all help is appreciated. A good vendor would help too. A local HW store here has a Metabo for $185, is that a good one? thanks!
 
go to home depot and ask what the best one for your project would be, then do a price comparison and see where you can find it the cheapest.
 
So noboday likes Metabo machines ? Variable or regulared speed grinders are pretty rare. I don't think DeWalt or Makita even make one. The Milwaukee one was almost $300. NE1 else wanna put in their 2 cents? thanks!
 
Variable speed grinders = $$. I would use a Milwalkee, and apply light pressure. Wear a nuisance mask, as fiberglass dust is really bad.

Thanks, and I will wear a mask too. We have one of those full face ones, but I gotta buy new filters for it. The HDs around here don't have marine ply unfortulantly. We gotta go to a specialty lumber yard and pay beaucoup buck$ for sheets of it. I wanna build benches in a 28 foot flat bottom skiff and will need some. Thanks again for the help, & you never heard of the brand either, eh? Does HD stock an adjustable speed Milwalkee?
 
Metablo make the best,by far, but they are expensive. I have one at work, I have a Black&Decker and a DeWalt at home. They don't mahe veriable speed 4 1/2 " grinders. For your job Sears has one for $30. The best wheel for shaping or removing wood is a wire wheel. And use a dust mask.

What size of angle grinder are you looking for?

I have a cheapo 4" that takes 3.8A and machine shop in my school has a 40lb behemoth with 10" blade rated at 15A and a 12" that runs off of 240V.

You can probably control the speed by connecting it through a triac based controller. A cheapo light dimmer may or may not work. Variacs are the best though. You can get a 10A variac on eBay for about $50 incl shipping. Combine that with a cheapo angle grinder.
