Priority is 2-3 day, so I would guess Express is 1-2 day.
I think that they have another Overnight option.

express mail is guaranteed overnight or you get a refund (note the out "to many U.S. destinations", so as always, if you really want a package sent "right", use fedex)

http://www.usps.com/all/shippingandmailing/overnightguaranteedpackages.htm

Next-day delivery is guaranteed by noon or 3 p.m. to many U.S. destinations, or your money back.

so it might take 3-5 days or a couple of weeks, but it will be free if it doesn't get there the next day

I stand corrected. What does it mean when it says "Next-day delivery is guaranteed by noon or 3 p.m. to many U.S. destinations, or your money back."

it means it's really 1-2 days.. usually. go w/ UPS/FedEX/DHL next day air service if it's that important.

However, on that note, I have used USPS Express.. sent out at around 3pm, and it arrived in california around 11am the next day. i was quite surprised.

USPS Express is 1-2 days. If you need it to be overnight I would suggest FedEx or DHL or UPS. They are better at getting your package there overnight.

Express is $14.40 for most destinations overnight by 12 or 3pm. It also depends on what time you bring your mail to the post office whether or not it will get there overnight.

$14.40 for Saturday, Sunday or even Christmas delivery is a bargain.

Check FedEx's rates for weekend delivery, you'll be unpleasantly surprised. USPS is the way to go.

It means either 1 of 3 things:

1) You missed the cutoff time for that day. Sometimes the cutoff time is anywhere from 1-6PM depending on the destination.

2) Most U.S. metropolitan cities are 1 day but some outlying BFE areas are 2 days.

3) RTFM

Look through the USPS website and you can find the zip codes where Express is overnight.
