You guys should really read up on some history.
While I don't agree with PETA with 99% of all it's issues, stopping fishing is one of the few I do agree with. It is probably the best thing the fishing industry can do for its long term survival. Back in the 80s, a single ship could catch what a fleet takes today roaming the oceans. It takes fleets canvassing the oceans to produce hauls today that are less than what was taken with less ships in the past. Most coastal fisheries are simply extinct; there are almost no fish worthy to be eaten and not in commerical quantities. The average size of the fish has gone down as well as the age.
If this trend continues, fish will become a delicacy as expensive as aged wine, cavier or diamonds.
And how would you propose this?
Many people either only have fish to live on and/or make their living from fishing.
I try to buy fish that are farmed like Salmon. I rarely buy my favorite, Chilean sea bass! Farming can supply the world with an adequate supply of fish for the foreseeable future. I don't much like Carter. I voted for him as a Democrat and regreted it. He was just too stupid and nieve! Having admitted that I don't like him, I doubt that he is harming anything in his fishing. If any thing, he is probably preventing lakes and streams from getting overpopulated. Many of the places that he would fish in are stocked every year and population controlled. It is like PETA to not check the facts before whining.
Yeah but talk to a fish lover and farmed fish doesn't taste as good as the "Free roaming" kind.
As for Japan...I would think that this is something the WORLD has to come on...it isn't just Japan~ If JUST the USA imposes limits and restrictions I don't see that having much effect, unless it could coax other countries to reduce on the amount of fish they harvest commercially.
