Isn't this going a bit far?????????

Carter, who served as president from 1977 to 1981 and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, told Leno of the pain he suffered when he accidentally hooked himself through the face on a fishing trip.

Ouch!

You guys should really read up on some history.

While I don't agree with PETA with 99% of all it's issues, stopping fishing is one of the few I do agree with. It is probably the best thing the fishing industry can do for its long term survival. Back in the 80s, a single ship could catch what a fleet takes today roaming the oceans. It takes fleets canvassing the oceans to produce hauls today that are less than what was taken with less ships in the past. Most coastal fisheries are simply extinct; there are almost no fish worthy to be eaten and not in commerical quantities. The average size of the fish has gone down as well as the age.

If this trend continues, fish will become a delicacy as expensive as aged wine, cavier or diamonds.

Fish have the right to be fried, baked or broiled.

I prefer sushi 😛
you forgot seared!

mmmm seared tuna

Favorite. Fish. Ever. 😉

Honestly though, when we have people sawing the heads off of other people while they are still alive, I think our treatment of fish is pretty far down the list of things we should be worried about. Maybe when we've reached the "Star Trek" perfect society model we can start thinking about it, but I don't think that will happen for a while yet 🙁

And how would you propose this?

Many people either only have fish to live on and/or make their living from fishing.

I would think that individuals fishing for fun (and hopefully to eat the fish and not just wound or kill them) are a small drop in the bucket compared to comercialized fishing so I'm not sure what the point you are trying to make with regards to Mr. Carter's fishing are....

Heh.

I will agree with omar the commercial fishing should be highly limited, and when populations return to normal it should be regulated to maintain longterm yields. Sustainability is key.

You best direct this one to the Japanese.

I try to buy fish that are farmed like Salmon. I rarely buy my favorite, Chilean sea bass! Farming can supply the world with an adequate supply of fish for the foreseeable future. I don't much like Carter. I voted for him as a Democrat and regreted it. He was just too stupid and nieve! Having admitted that I don't like him, I doubt that he is harming anything in his fishing. If any thing, he is probably preventing lakes and streams from getting overpopulated. Many of the places that he would fish in are stocked every year and population controlled. It is like PETA to not check the facts before whining.
