The Grocery Union is on strike right now in California. The Ralphs by my house has picketers in front of all exits and they walk across blocking traffic from coming in and out. Ralphs is not the only business in that Shopping Center. Don't they know that they are hurting all other businesses in the Center? There is also a Rite-Aid, some fast food places, a Hallmark, etc. in the Center. Don't these strikers know that they are already getting paid more than the people that are working in these other establishments, and getting full benefits? They are doing almost exactly the same job as the people in these other places and complaining that they don't get enough. Or that they don't want to pay up to $15 a week for benefits? Come on. If I worked in one the other stores I would be pissed that these cry babies are actually striking over something that they already have so good. I heard on the news this morning that they have better benefits than 96% of the United States and the Union has stated that average pay is between $12-$15 an hour. I know people that went to school for years, or are working in much more demanding jobs that aren't getting paid that much.
How could they expect us to honor their picket line when there is no reason to. Why should I be on their side. All it's going to do is raise the prices of my groceries. Isn't this insulting that they feel they deserve more? Am I being a snob or something by thinking that maybe they don't deserve everything they get?
