Isn't it weird that hard work is almost always rewarded?

I haven't decided if I work for an evil corporation or not yet. I just learned that my director is prioritizing me getting a chance to have a rare experience/training opportunity on-site over doing my normal work, of which there is a rather important deadline that conflicts. I guess that's a good sign.
