Isn't it dangerous that fat Americans view obesity as empowering?

The media's full of the Oprahs of the world shouting "love the body that you have!"

And that should mean taking good care of it. If you allow yourself to become morbidly obese and do nothing about it you aren't demonstrating any love for the body you have. There is nothing empowering about it. It is just another example of failure to take responsibility for yourself and actions. No one shoved those creme horns down your throat. You did it to yourself. Don't try and blame the rest of society for your own shortcomings by claiming you are empowered by your own obesity. That is moronic.

Basically. This can be represented mathematically:

(1) Fatties + health problems caused by obesity + overall disgusting lifestyle = unproductive garbage.

See how that works out?

So, someone who is fat can in no way be a net contributor to society just because they might cut 10-15 years off their own life?

For instance, if some fat person were to be awarded a Nobel prize for their life's work curing some such disease their life would amount to less than a thin life long McDonalds employee?

your most productive years obviously occur at the end of your life. everyone knows this.

First, no fat person has ever cured a disease. Look at all the prominent scientists in history. Are they fatties? No. Second, a thin McDonalds employee, contributes to society by paying takes, fatties pay taxes too, but they suck the money right back tenfold. My equation still stands. QED.

Really? You have an encyclopedic knowledge of all respected scientists throughout the ages along with their BMI.

Also, what money are fat people sucking?

He's referring to the inevitable healthcare costs imposed on the rest of society by the effects of being hugely overweight (diabetes, blood vessel disorders, heart disease, mobility, etc).

This thread reeks of fail. Fat people aren't all unhealthy. Likewise, skinny people aren't all healthy. Telling a fat person to lose weight is like telling a skinny person to gain weight. If someone decides that they feel they should lose weight, they should be allowed to do so on their own will, not because you or anyone else tells them to do so. Also, why the hell does every thread in ATOT turn into political debates now? ATOT has gone really downhill since the forum upgrades...

skinny people end up using more healthcare costs by virtue of the fact that they live longer.

ultimately, the only solution is for not only everyone to lose weight but also to implement soylent green for anyone over the age of 50.

Someone recently quoted a study here on AT that those were bogus claims because fat people died much sooner and didn't draw on the medical system for nearly for as long of a length of time.

Not being fat is a requirement for being respected. Fatties cannot be taken seriously, because all people ever see is a fatty. Everyone knows this.

They are still a drain on the system. Why even attempt to prolong the life of someone who clearly doesn't care enough about their own body to become healthy? Every single dollar that goes into the medical care of fatties is a waste. Why? Because as soon as they get well, they go right back to their unhealthy ways, and have to be treated again. Do you see how this cycle of stupidity is a drain on resources, Squisher? Do you see the awful truth? Open your eyes.

There are plenty of shows that celebrate obesity. The obesity rates in the US should show that this country is not an enemy of obesity.

So many women excuse their fat figure by saying that they are "real women". "Real women have curves". No, a real woman does not mean a unhealthily obese woman.

Even men excuse this behavior, saying that true women are chubby, and shrugging off skinnier, attractive women as "unappealing" simply because they are (most likely) unobtainable. Then they tell their overweight SOs "Oh no, she's way to skinny. It's gross."

As if he really prefers a 250 pound heifer.

J Lo's disgusting ass has gone a long way towards contributing to this BS trend.

I think that it's a backlash against the media, who seems to think that only women who wear size 2 or smaller are sexy.

I personally prefer women with a little meat on their bones, but that probably makes me a minority on ATOT. Seriously... the amount of fatty bashing here is pathetic.

"a little meat" is fine.

a 5 foot nothing girl weighing in at 200 lbs is NOT fine.

(this is coming from a fatty)

being overweight is something that SHOULD be discouraged.
