Isn't it bad for drywall to get wet?

I just drove by a home construction site and there were pallets of drywall sitting out in the rain. It has been raining for like 3 hours on and off now. That can't be good. It's not like that blue wonder board stuff that you use in bathrooms and other wet areas.

Yes, it's bad. But it's dense enough that only the top sheet will likely be destroyed. IIRC they come grouped by two's, with a heavy tape around the edges. So the rest of the stack should be relatively safe.

Think of it as a 8'x4x.5" sponge.

If it gets wet, it turns to mush.

It's bad if it stays wet. If it gets a chance to dry soon it's useable. The drywall in my basement got wet when it flooded a couple months ago. After it dried out, You wouldn't know it had gotten wet.

Plaster and paper both expand when they take on water. If this did not occur, then it is still usable. If it did expand then the contractor will still use it but it doesn't have the same strength.
