Isn't everyone taught never to point a gun at someone?

Pretty tragic accident. But so many basic safety rules were broken including, but not limited to "don't point muzzle at anything you don't want to destroy"

I'm still trying to figure out how you "accidentally" pull a trigger if you have anything resembling reflexes in a stable environment. Did she just treat it like a toy and point it at her husband?

I can see it now: "Hahaha well don't make me blow your head off honey (sarcastically). Pew Pew, Pew, *BANG* Oh shit."

WTF are you doing with a loaded gun inside your house?

Because unloaded ones are pretty much worthless?

The only time you should have a loaded, chambered gun is when you're about to shoot something.

It's INCREDIBLY stupid to be handing a loaded gun just for fun, as the op illustrates.

Your first post does not say the same thing as your second implies.

I always think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTF82dNLdvM

A bit of nsfw language.

Jesus Christ, don't people realize they should always treat firearms as loaded and ready to fire? I swear, people should be required to train with paintball guns before they ever get near a real firearm. That way you can see if they do stupid things like point it at people or forget to put on safeties/barrel plugs/protective gear.

to answer the OPs question - apparently not.

I've seen several videos on youtube of guys taking their GFs out to shoot and after the 1st shot, the chick is all scared and whips the gun around pointing it right at the camera holder or in other dangerous directions.

He should have known better than to hand her a loaded gun.

Rule #1 - All guns are always loaded (or should be treated as such)
Rule #2 - Never put your finger on the trigger until your sights are on the target (if your husbands head isn't the target, well ya...)
Rule #3 - Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy

It's a soldier - the majority of them aren't the brightest people on the planet -- and they are used to recklessly pointing and shooting at easy targets.

What crawled up your ass and died?

Better to keep your mouth shut than to open it and remove all doubt...

I wonder why they are accepting her story?

The other question is obvious. Glock?

It was 1:30 a.m., so I don't think they intended to shoot anything. I have no idea why he'd be teaching her anything related to a gun at 1:30 a.m after drinking.

Probably because he was drinking.

That explains the smell.

IF you think about it, it's quite a let down going through boot camp, training and what not as a soldier only to have your drunken wife cap yo ass at a BBQ. That's like a pro football player getting tackled by a 5 year old and injuring his knees so bad that he's out for the season.

Oh and...

HEADSHOT!

RAAAAAAAAAMPAGE!

The other question is obvious. Glock?

Soldiers are issued M9's, aren't they? Why is the other question obvious on whether it was a Glock? There are tons of other handguns out there without a manual thumb safety ie the beretta M9 and the 1911.

Not much chance that it was his issue weapon, imo. If it was, that's a whole other set of questions.

Glocks have no manual safeties, they rely on the "safe trigger" and their "safe action"and they require a trigger pull for disassembly.

So it's common in these situations to ask if it was a Glock, because people tend to think they are just automatically safe.

$10 says she shot him on purpose and then claimed he was teaching her how to handle the firearm and that she accidentally blew his brains out.

I'm aware of how they work, I was wondering why ask if its a glock because of all the other "non-safety" models like the Sig p2xx series, hk's, and flurry of other popular handguns without a manual safety and was using the M9 and the 1911 as examples.

Yea, I forgot about that trigger pull to disassemble feature. I still get a little hesitant when field stripping them and always chamber check 3-4 times.

But don't you have to say it three times? 😉
