I am trying to install a 3com etherlink3 3c509b-tpo network card, and I
can't seem to get it to work. It worked fine in windows 2000, but Windows XP doesn't
seem to like it. It recognizes the card, but when I try to install the
drivers that are provided at 3com's site, I keep getting the message " INF
not the same as requested." PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have anymore
PCI slots! TIA

Did XP ask you to provide drivers for the card when it first installed it? Or are you installing the drivers after XP has installed the NIC?

This can occur when there is no IRQ is available. ISA can not stuck the IRQ as flexible as PCI.

If you don?t use the second serial port. You can disable it (in the Mobo BIOS), that usually frees IRQ 3.

Thats the thing that bothers me. The card is recognized by XP,but it has no supported drivers. It comes up with that yellow "!"

I looked at 3com's site and couldn't find any drivers that say they work with XP. Have you tried "Update driver" on the properties for the NIC? See if you can select the card from a list.

As I reacally, XP will only support the plug & play versions of isa network cards. Is your P&P or does it have jumpers for configuration? If yours is the P&P version make sure it is in P&P mode.
