IS7 onboard LAN doesn't get listed in device enumeration, what to do?

I've been trying to get my brand new IS7's onboard LAN to work but so far it refuses to even list the onboard network chip at bootup. I know the device is there, I can see the chip. I received one of the IS7 boards with Gigabit Ethernet (rumour is that the 10/100 chips were for some reason in short supply). Note that the onboard ethernet options do not appear in the BIOS either. Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue or am I doomed to RMA the board?

OK, I got it to appear in the list and WinXP sees it as "Ethernet Controller". It refuses to accept any drivers though (even the Abit supplied ones) :(

Something isn't right if you don't see any options for it in the bios.

Did you install the intel inf driver for the motherboard?

There 3 things that i can think of

1) Make sure you have installed the Intel INF Driver Intel INF Driver

2) Try the latest drivers off abits website Onboard Drivers For Lan

or 3) if you have a modem in the machine go to the windows update website, most times it will find a drive for some hardware as well (had it work with cmedia audio, via audio and lan and other)

Well I just did a clean install of XP Pro then I installed SP1a, then the Intel INF's. I've tried both available BIOSes, neither of which show that there is LAN onboard. Windows' device manager does pick up on an "Ethernet Controller" under "Other Devices" but doesn't let me install the Abit-supplied 3COM drivers. For that matter, Abit's driver CD does not recognize that I have LAN and does not offer the option of installing the LAN drivers.

Do I have a bad board? Do I have to RMA?

Are you sure you have the versions with onboard ethernet? I have an is7 and it had a blank panel over the slot - perhaps they forgot yours

Nah, the IS7 does have 10/100 ethernet. However people have been lucky in getting a 3Com GigLan. On my IS7, it did have a 3Com gigLan before I had to RMA it because of a faulty BIOS chip

Make sure u go into the BIOS and enable the onboard LAN feature.

The board has a 3Com Marvell 940-MV00 chip on it. I looked it up on 3COM's website and it is a GigabitE chip.

That's the problem, the onboard LAN features don't show up in the BIOS; that is the option to enable it isn't even present.

AAAH!!!! I just ordered an IS7-E and now you have to tell me about this craziness! :p

Hehe ... if it's not even an option in the BIOS... damn, I have no idea ... to my knowledge, all the IS7 models are supposed to have onboard LAN in some capacity. If you've updated the BIOS and still don't see an option for it (check the manual too, it may be buried somewhere) ... I'd probably RMA as my next step, but hopefully someone here can tell you more.
