IS300 advice

I'm going to hand my 14 year old beater car to my brother since he'll be driving within the next month or so.

Is this a good deal? KBB reports $27k for this year and mileage. Are IS300 usually selling for this much since they're basically "old" in terms of model redesign.

If i remember correctly, about 6 or more months back there were huge incentives and rebates on the IS300, something like $2500.

Ever considered the Acura TSX? The Engine is just as powerful, and you can get a new car with more options at the same price.........

I looked around for a used TSX and they were none around $25k. They were all automatic. The only manual one I saw was around 200 miles away from. 🙁

Seems a little on the high end, but Lexus cars have great resale, so it'll be tough finding an IS at a reasonable price.

being on autotrader, it'd never be a hot deal...

how about the G35 coupe? or you can get a WRX or something for that money...

how about going to the dealer physically? you can never get a good price if you don't bargain...

My gf and I paid below invoice for our new IS300 back in January. With a new IS due out next year, you should get a really good deal on the current model.

lol As much as I'd love to own a Supra I don't think I can afford the long term cost of a sportscar/GT like that, not to mention any upgrades that might end up snowballing. 😛 Maybe later on though. 🙁

They both use the same engine, it's a rock solid sports car if you don't do any performance mods it'll be very reliable

edit; not saying mods will make it less reliable, but just for piece of mind you don't have to do performance mods if you want to keep it as long as possible

I agree. The 2JZ block might be one of the finest I-6 blocks ever made.

Well it's not practical for me right now, and by long term cost I meant insurance. 😛 Living in LA isn't exactly helping either since ricers get off on Supras. 😉

You live in LA? Go to Longo off the 10 fwy. It's where I got mine. They have the largest allocation of IS300s in the states, so they'll push the price down below where most dealers are willing to go.

Thanks 😀 But I'd prefer that I buy it within state. I know I'm limiting myself to possibly better deals but if any problems arise I'd probably have less hassle to deal with. I love that car though, if only more manuals were available. 🙁

How much did you get yours OTD?

I was at a dealer today and they were pushing me on a 2002 4Runner 4WD Limited for $25k with 24k miles. 😕

Well I wish I had the choice to get a 2 door right now, but it's not really practical for me. What sucks is an S2000 would be great and at this price range I could actually get one. 🙁

I got the 04 IS300 (e-shift) in crystal white/black interior w/convenience pkg (moonroof, keyless, power seats, etc) + all leather (no alcantara) + preferred equipment package (wheel locks, cargo net, etc) for 31,000 OTD (comes to something like 600 under invoice). I'll see if I can find the name of my dealer for you.

the new IS that's due out for '05 is a v8 IS430, they will still make the old is 300, so I wouldn't expect a price drop

How reliable is that information? b/c from all sources I hear from the new IS will be an IS330 with the same 3.3L V-6 in the RX and ES platforms...

I can't imagine that Lexus could push an IS430 out the door at anywhere near the same price as the current IS300.

I'd say not very. Sure Lexus wedged a V8 in the IS for fun, but I've never seen any indication that it will see production. Now why is everyone trying to get this guy into a coupe and/or a sportscar when he expresses interest in a 4 door?

To the OP--great car, though not a great deal on it. Good luck!
