is your post office closing?

Nope. Closest branch I know of is a couple hours away. Huge chunk of them are being closed in the Bronx.

Yep. Disappointing, because it was only about 2 or 300 yards down the street from me. I never minded walking down to mail packages out. Now, I'll have to go about 6 miles away. But, it seems quite reasonable to close it; there can't be more than a couple hundred (300?) addresses in this town.

edit: just looked it up; 268 households. 🙂

I wonder if people who got their mail from the POs which are closing will get a new zip code. There aren't two POs in the same zip code ever, is there?

None of mine are, and that's great. I like being able to walk to a post office. I'm a little surprised about the one near me. They don't get much business, and there's others that are close, but not in walking distance from me. I've never seen more than 3 people in the one I walk to but the business is somewhat steady, albeit one at a time.

Looks like they're closing 2 of them in my city, leaving 2 open.

Wow... only two postal locations in a city of 130,000? That's loco.

They are closing the one in my grandparents town. It is PO box only down there too, I wonder how they will have to deal with that? I guess they will have to open a PO box in the next town, 26 miles away to get mail. Sucks for them.

err no. why would they close one to open another? lol

they will have to get a box out on the road. The reason they are doing this is its cheaper to have someone deliver mail (wich odds are they arlready have) then it is to keep the building open.

why would you think they would have to drive 26 miles to get the mail?

They might have a PO box by choice. I've been tempted to go that route, but sometimes I get mail I want immediately, and not have to wait until my weekly pickup. Yea, I could go every day to see if my prize came, but that would defeat the purpose, especially once you add the extra cost to it.

The one closest to me already closed. I went there to mail a package a couple of months ago and was SOL.

85% of all post offices don't turn a profit. soon all the post offices will close and you'll have to go to your local library to mail a letter/package.

I guess if they WANT a po box. sure. the poster didn't give much info. but the way it sounded is they have to have one now and its closeing.

wich my point is no they won't have to drive 26 miles away (lol). they will have to buy one and have it installed in the front of the yard or such.

There is no box out on the road where they live, no one else has one either.

no shit. thats why they have a PO BOX.

not to be rude but how old are you?

they are loseing the Post office. so they lose the PO BOX. The reason they are are doing it is because its expensive to have the buildings and a person working.

So your grandparents (and everyone else) will have to buy a box for the road. Then the person who does the mail delivery will include them.

grandparents will NOT have to drive 26 miles for mail (unless they really really want a po box).

You arent getting it, there is no mail delivery. Unless they are going to do it from the next town. I really dont give a shit one way or another, I get my mail just fine, and mine is the only mail I care about.
