You know... that's funny. I noticed that. Why is that? Is there a general reason why floridian houses don't have basements? I have family in FLA and I realize none of their homes have basements. I figured it was just due to a style of house but they all have different style homes. Is it something about the soil? Lack of heating equipment?

Water table. I'm in the middle of the state where it's about 150 ft above sea level, and the only kind of 'basements' I've seen are the kind built into the side of a hill.

Also, many northern homes require deep foundations so they add basements to get more bang for the buck, but here you don't need deep foundations at all.

Well, as far as I know she was never locked in the basement. I can't imagine a dog breeder locking a puppy in the basement.

OP, was someone murdered in your basement? ;)

But I scrubbed and scrubbed to make sure everything was clean!

My cat charges into the basement every time I go down there. It's a land of mystery to be explored -- it was the same with the garage at my old house, but you can't get to the garage from inside here.

florida is flat, and near sea level.

imagine a basement in a flat, near sea level area.

I can't. I can however, imagine a poorly lit indoor pool with a built in hot water heater.

That'd be awesome. Swimming in a dark indoor pool is fun. Just that whole... electrocution thing isn't so fun.

Like my duplex apartment where the bottom floor is basement? I live right next to the hudson river harbor which is sea level. I've never had flooding or even moisture issues.

I guess ISAslot summed it up with the water table issue.

"This pool is all tingly, and the water tastes...purple."

my dads dog was afraid of "the other side of the bed" because he chased the family cat around the bed, slid into an ironing board and it crashed on top of him. he wouldnt ever go to the other side of the bed again. he was also afraid of extension cords, we could lay one on the floor around him in a circle and he wouldnt move for anything.
