Is your computer faster than a Dutch cow?

hehe I had to post something.. wanna know why? in the daily stats Dutch power cows have been consistantly beating us! that means it's CRUNCH time fellas! we need reqruits and we need em now!

Yesterday they somehow posted 3 MILLION Blocks! I'm guessing some of them were built up or something, but we need to make sure they don't beat us!

to add to this, we are only 50 million block away from the top team, SlashDot. when we beat the Macs for 2nd place, we were more then 100 million blocks away. after that our speed slackened off, so I bet if we got all our people running again, we can beat Dutch power cows in the daily stats, AND get 1st place overall!

The Dutch Power Cows saved a bunch of blocks that they're releasing right now, but they're still ahead of us in the daily stats even without the dump.

If you join now, you'll be part of the team when we jump over the /. team to first place overall.

We need more members for all the distributed computing projects.

The RC5/ORG client is very stable and runs in the background very well. It shuts off when you're using the computer so it doesn't really slow anything down.

SETI@HOME makes for a real cool screensaver.

Both programs can give your computer a good testing to see if it really is stable!

Come over to the distributing computing forum and check it out.

That's DPC's MF6. It going to go on for 8 days :( (its old news).

We really need more people. They keep slaughtering us in the dailies, and we need to take it back. I think after this mega flush, they'll continue to flush about 1.8M- 2+M blocks. We need more crack heads fast.

BTW ? This is their last Mega Flush (D.Nets orders :)).

Soccerman, can you make the title a bit eye catching? I think we can use this for a recruitment thread. :)

D.Net is ordering them to stop the mega flushes? why's that? eventually we'll be hitting that rate on average anyway.

Yeah they have been beating us on the daily stats for a while always by about 200 000-400 000 blocks average. we need to get our people more active again (we have alot of non active members).

hmm.. change the title? I dunno.. BTW, has anyone ever posted these things in the Off topic, and Video card forums? or any other forum besides this and distributed?

I'll see what i can do about this title..

hmmn...I might consider signing up, is this RC5 you're talking about? Have to test the stability of my system anyway, so far I'm only running Prime95 to test it and it seems ok until my room temp goes up :)

Probably won't be running overnight, but every little bit counts right? So where do I sign up?

Btw running a C566@850MHz with 256MB CAS2 SDRAM

Hehe :D Nice one. :)

I think MF stress their systems too much (?). Who knows, I'm sure some one from the DC forum can answer that. :)

You need a more provocative statement/question for title. How do you beat Dutch cows? How do you slaughter Dutch cows? Will you let Dutch cows dump on us? How can we dump more than a Dutch cow? Is your computer faster than a Dutch cow? SETI wants to invade your home.

OK, I've just downloaded and installed the client, and set my email address. Then I saved and exited the options, and this other console window popped up and ran a few tests and began crunching. The FAQ sez I have to wait 24 hours to join. I hope I can turn off my computer during that period of time...?

Yes you can. Flush a couple of blocks first.

BTW - Welcome to the team :)

SSP, not in the team just yet, but if everything goes well, will be tomorrow :)

BTW how do I know when I've flushed a block. Currently, after waiting for like an hour, the console window looks something like this:

Does that mean I haven't completed even 1 work unit yet? And is a work unit a block?

it looks to me that you're downloading OGR packets.. why? I don't know! go to configure on the console by right clicking it, and then go to #2, buffer options, and then change the fetch time threshold so that all but RC-5 are at 0... if that's not the problem then check out the other options.

you are cracking ogr atm, to change to rc5 :
right click on the window, choose configure,
then choose option 2, next choose option 9 (load work
preference), then type the following :
rc5, ogr=0, des=0, csc = 0

then choose 0, and 0 again to save.

Ah, ok...brown has the answer :)
Now I'm crunching RC5, here's what the window looks like, does it look ok?

Looks good. Keep an eye on buff-out. It'll tell you if you have any blocks to send.

Knowing you will be on our team is good enough for me. :)

Once one packet has been "checked" you can right click and hit flush work, then it will be around 24 hours after that for you to get your password and such and be able to join the team. Wait a day then to go dnet and search for your email address then click email me my password... Then search for anandtech under the teams and click the link to join the team.. and most important of all... Welcome to TA!!

Thanks Paulson...

SSP, what buff-out? Anyway, I see this among all the printouts...

<< [Sep 04 20:40:49 UTC] Completed RC5 packet CC0DE9B0:00000000 (8*2^28 keys)
0.00:17:59.32 - [1,989,656.17 keys/sec]
>>

I guess that means I've completed an RC5 packet? Anyway, I've flushed my work after seeing that, so I guess tomorrow I'll join the team. How's my keyrate anyway?

The keyrate looks pretty good. One better way to test is to right click and hit benchmark RC5. This gives the program higher CPU priority when the benchmark runs and can see how fast it really is. I have a athlon @ 770 and it hits [2,630,215.48 keys/sec]. If you need any more help please stop by the DC forum.. there is a bunch of helpful and wonderful folks there!

This is what I mean by buff-out:

[Sep 04 20:43:41 UTC] 0 RC5 packets (0 work units) remain in buff-in.rc5
[Sep 04 20:43:41 UTC] 1 RC5 packet (32 work units) is in buff-out.rc5
