IMO, businesses pay you to work it, not jerk it. Surfing is stealing...and you had better be able to prove you were on break if they ask you about internet use during the day...if you are allowed to use it at all.

You also need the option for "I'm a 133t haxor and know what programs are running on my pc and can disable them if I want to and my IT dept (desktop support) suxxors and couldn't install Notepad if they wanted to." As long as I'm within the AUP when I'm in the office at school, I can surf whatever I want. However, since it is Notre Dame, this means no p0rn, no illegal software, and no illegal music. They are supposed to be able to track all the traffic that goes over the network. However, I don't think they have the time or manpower to waste on being content police.

At home I can do whatever I please. I have my own apartment and pay for my broadband.

My company does not mind surfing sites as long as they are job related and arn't going to hurt the reputation of the company (IE: pornography is bad for the reputation of the company).

Since I work in IT and consider anandtech.com IT/myjob related - it is ok!

Besides, it is either surf the web a little or go insane. You pick.

EDIT: Oh yea, and I know for a fact that my company hired someone solely to watch webuse. I heard him talking about it and the people hes caught using it - stupid job. It tracks by IP over the proxy on which IPs called what.
