Is yellow a bad color?

I've been using this same basic auction scheme for a while, but I was thinking that it may be too bright and annoying for some people. I think maybe I've been looking at it so long that I'm used to it... heh

Large amounts of text in that color would be annoying, but for the amount of reading there is, it seems fine to me.

I thought just yellow color in general so I voted no

But after looking at your site, yes it's too bright IMHO

Edit: Especially near the end with the horizontal bars

Yes. Do something different for the background on the bars. Otherwise, the text is ok, though I'm not a fan of extreme light-on-dark color schemes in general.

Tad too gaudy for me, but the images and layout are nice. One fellow's work still stands out in my memory. That was a guide to scanning, by Wayne Fulton. Great font, plenty of color, yet tasteful.

I've heard that yellow promotes suicidal thoughts. It was on a TV program many years back. Blue is the most soothing.

Blue on white is nice.

Your current scheme is nicely done, but a little hard on my eyes color-wise.

As many have mentioned the the contrast between the black and yellow is too much of a jump. One tip when choosing a color scheme is to look at a color wheel and try to pick colors on the same side, but not right next to each other. It's more soothing on the eyes when looking from one color to another. I try to stay away from jumping directly across the color wheel unless I'm trying to bring extreme attention to one aspect of the site. But use it only sparingly!!
