I've been using XP Pro for over a year now and like it for the stability. You will lose the ability to play many of your older games though. I ran a dual boot with 98 for a year and then realized I hadn't gone back to 98 for so long so I removed it. Go for it man!
 
I agree with the rest... XP!!!

Make sure to do a clean install, not an upgrade, if currently using a 9x OS.
