Is X-Fi gonna fully work in Vista?

I read somewhere some company(Creative or someone) had a workaround that would enable all of X-Fi features as if it was running on XP. Is this true? I don't see no reason to keep it if not.

X-Fi support in Vista is MUCH better than Audigy 2 support. Creative sucks with drivers in general, though. Regardless, with recent patches everything works AFAIK.

I ran my X-Fi fine when I had Vista a while ago. I'm pretty sure all the features worked. I used the beta driver from Creative.

Supposedly, it will work full function for now. But if you get a blue ray or hd component on your system, then it will be crippled and may even be bricked. Same should go for most video cards. They may work for now, but once the drm requirments get meet equipment, then you may have problems.

I guess time will tell.

creative and ms should be ashamed for not working together on this. x-fi was great in XP but was pure hell in vista

X-fi is working perfectly for me in Vista currently, just basic features though as the control panel is still being coded I believe. Certainly better than the the current Nvidia drivers for Vista. 😛

Not really a big deal. By the time people start getting hd drives it'll be time to upgrade anyway.

My nvidia card is running a million times better than the X-Fi.

The x-fi puts out *LOUD* static instead of sound half the time, and afterwards I have to switch it from ent mode to game mode back to ent mode just to get sound back.

Crystalizer works fine.

CMSS surround also works fine - in software. You incur a 5% cpu hit on a p4 3.0ghz, and I purpchased the card to be an accelerator, not a decelerator.

Hasn't worked for me in any games either.

I'm getting rid of it.

Yeah, same here. Aside from the CP the Creative drivers have been perfect. Maybe it's that Nforce chipset bug again?

My x-Fi is working just fine in VISTA RC2 right now.

The only feature that I can't seem to get working correctly is SPDIF passthrough to an external decoder. I have read on the VISTA forums that the new drivers that will be released very soon (guessing on the 30th) will fix this as well.

Whoa, that's a lot of problems. Which version of Vista are you using? I didn't get any of those with RTM.

Vista RTM, latest drivers (Dec 28) on an intel 925 board...and intel boards arent exactly known for compatibility problems.

And it was absolutely 100% rock solid in XP...but in vista, on the exact same hardware, its a disaster.

Just curious BD2003... If your Nvidia card is working perfectly how are you enabling AA? As well all the other features currently disabled in Vista. My graphics control panel is nearly empty. Are you able to play a game in full screen mode without crashing? Nvidia website link = See release notes PDF link at the bottom of the page.

There's certainly options for AA in the drivers, and it works fine in game...but the drivers a still missing a LOT from the XP drivers - color calibration, nview etc. All the 3d related stuff is there though.

Full screen games work fine, with AA.

i cant get spdif passthru to work either via coax cable either. all DD/DTS/AC3 sound output should normally go to my logitech Z5500 for decoding, now it converts to Prologic as if it was any other app. no passthrough was done

i hope they fix this soon
