Is WoW worth it

I know I've seen a few of these threads but I wanted to see what other peoples thoughts are.

I have been played wow for 6 weeks. I have a lvl 42 pally and a few other characters in their mid teens. I enjoyed it at first but now I feel like its way too much of a grind to get to max out your character so you can actually do advanced dungeons/raids/etc. I am a 2 year GW vet where I did everything and the grind getting to max out was non-existent. The grind in GW was getting skills and figuring out different combos.

I know the main reason why I haven't enjoyed it is because I don't know anyone that plays and I can only play at most 2 hours a day if that much. I've met some people but in a few days time they are 5 lvls ahead of me and I cannot quest with them. I know MMO's well so I am very good at the game but I just can't seem to find too much enjoyment. I think my last ditch effort to continue to play would be to join a guild and see how that plays out?

Anyone have any advice or should I give up and stick to single player games?

If you think it's a grind now, you would have been going crazy before all the mount changes in recent patches and the BIG exp boost in 2.3. :p

That being said, if you don't enjoy WOW, you probably shouldn't be playing it. Don't know what else to tell you...you don't really tell us what you're looking for in a game.

40-50 in WoW sucks, always has. The zones are boring and uninspired and they seem to drag on. If it makes you feel any better, in terms of enjoyment, you are at the worst part of the leveling process. Once you make it to 50 things get a lot better, and 60-70 is an absolute breeze(70-80 takes a lot longer, but it is relatively entertaing the first time through, just has almost no replay value).

You're a pally - so leveling fast should be relatively easy as ret spec [I haven't played in awhile, so maybe prot or healadin specs were revamped/updated].

Guilds will accept you, but most people in the guild won't want to run their alts to help you level - it's just how things are. And since you only have 2 hours to play - you probably won't see a lot of the end game raids as they do take awhile to run through [not sure about the latest raid content - but knowing blizzard, they want to you spend a significant time on the raid instances]

2 hours a day to play? other than paying someone [service] to level your character for you - it IS going to take awhile to get to level cap [realistically - probably 3-6 months]

How about this: you play WoW until your month runs out and then wait patiently for The Old Republic. Support BioWare! Hell, support BioWare Texas! Support the American economy!

If you like this type of MMO then, yes, its worth it. Although if you are a sociable type person then you'll have much more fun playing with others. MMOs by design are for those that like playing with other people. As HCR says, 'only YOU know the answer to that question.'

I'm a big RPG fan and I love the WC games so I was hoping to enjoy this but as it stands with most MMO's the story is weak and uninspiring. I have another 3 weeks until my month runs out so I might just keep it going and try and see where I end up. If I join a guild I dont need someone to level me, I want to go around with people my level and level up.

I also starting playing because I felt like this summer/fall there weren't many games coming out that I wanted (until Dragon Age at least). But that is true I would be much more interested in playing SW: OR or even waiting for Secret World.

When I played GW I was the Alliance leader of 10 guilds, and we had vent so I knew/played with a lot of people that I only met in game. But I guess I just don't have enough time now to play meet enough people to make it more intriguing for me.

Fixed. And yes, pretty much dead on about the 60-80 levels. 60-70 super fast, 70-80 a little slower, but really cool environments and changes.

I cancelled cause my computer died and I haven't purchased another one, but I really do enjoy grouping with people, even if they are 13 year old children :( When everybody playing is all chipping in equally during a raid, I think the game becomes wonderful.

That completely slipped my mind :) What I really meant was to support BioWare Austin because they are fairly new and haven't done anything else other than the Sonic RPG for the DS.

If you don't like the leveling up grind then I doubt you will like the ez-mode dungeon farming or the rep grinds much either. Unless your main focus is going to be PvP you've pretty much seen all WoW has to offer minus the raiding part, which is really only fun the first couple weeks you do it.

that isn't reason enough to support them...they need to make it GOOD.

at least it wont be too hard to top the last star wars MMO? :)

The 40-50 have always sucked imo. Release it was painful cause you'd think getting the mount would be "Wooo I'm so friggin cool" and in reality it was like "Now I have to travel longer and further by [insertracemounthere], fantastic". I think they've tried improving this level frame twice at least.

Just grind on through it. If you aren't having any fun at all quit, but it does get a little better once you reach 50+

No way. I'll take 40-50 any day of the week over 50-58/60.

Really? Plaguelands(EPL and WPL) remain two of my favorite zones in the game, Ungoro and Silithus aren't too bad either(although with easy leveling now I never finish up in EPL before it is time to head to Outlands, let alone touch Silithus). Scholo and Strat are far, far better then ST and ZF too IMO.

I had fun from 1-60 on my first character. I started playing at launch. After that it sucked. Too much grind, too much time required to play to get anything done.
Starting new characters sucked because I'd already been through most things on the Alliance side. Tried to create a Horde character but then I asked myself, whats the point? I'm just going to level up to 60 or whatever and quit again because I hate the end-game. So I quit. Tried to come back after the 1st expansion but couldn't get into it and the same thoughts came back. Might be different if I had friends to play with but none of my friends played.

Its worth it if you like that kinda thing, i had fun for a couple of months but its just not ruthless enough for me, diablo II was more my thing.

Good game though, i can see the attraction.

Hehe, Plaguelands are the number one reason I'd rather do 40-50. Oh well, to each his own. :p

You (op) made it almost twice as far as I could manage before I quit. I recommend shelving the game until you have someone in real life to play with.

WoW, like most all mmo's is also a huge time sink which right now you could probably better spend on other games, or other stuff.

I hit 60 in about 2 weeks when the game first came out. Quit, played BC, hit 70 about 2 weeks, quit, got LK and hit 80 in about 2 weeks, and then got pissed that every single damn time I got decked out in full T7, then a whole new set comes out. I dont even get time to enjoy it. Im not a hardcore raider that I can get the set in the first week. I keep checking up on the game every once and a while and they came out with 3-4 new sets since I quit. Fuck that shit. Worse time/money sink ever.

I might install it again after I build my new comp just to see how pretty it looks but then Ill stop again.
