It's a Woot-off and no one has mentioned it.
In fact it hasn't been mentioned in a while.

didn't amazon buy them?

I don't understand how Woot is profitable.

But I do understand why people buy stuff from Woot (cancerous psychotic consumerism)

But I still don't understand how Woot is profitable.

they buy close out and limited stock stuff and rely on their unique sales format to drive visits. when they no longer have enough stock to really sell for a whole day, they move it to the woot off bin.

I used to check their site daily. Then the concept kinda got old to me. Now I just go if I hear of a good deal thru slickdeals.

I used to check every day, until I realized their prices were not really all that great, and if they were they'd be posted on SD anyway.

Did they ever have anything useful other than Roombas and bags of crap?

Yeah, some of their gadgets, computer parts and peripheral deals were pretty good. Stuff like TV tuners, wireless mice, etc.

They do have the rare good deal, but mostly it's Roombas and the overstock of crappy products.

I've never really seen why woot was so popular. All I want are bags of crap, and servers get so hammered then you can't buy them anyways.

I'm not really an impulsive shopper, so woot doesn't really appeal to me. I have bought a few things from them though.

Woot never was "popular".

it was a quiet "in" thing for a few elite snobs who would post a day or two later about the "amazing woot deal" they got.

^^. I used to really like Woot, but it seems like the frequency of a "good buy" has been steadily declining.

also their woot-offs have gotten much longer. don't know if that's a sign of more products (selection and quantity) or if fewer people are buying their things. but the fact that amazon bought woot out means it is probably the former.

At this point, Woot is so popular that they can jack up the prices on their products and STILL sell them out. The days of Woot's price being 20 percent cheaper than the competition are long gone now.

Woot never had the best price on whatever item they were selling that day every day, but they often had (and still do) a good price on that item. I just got 2X2packs of these: http://www.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=13685 They just sent out a $5 coupon and $16 for four of them seemed like a nice deal. This is the type of stuff to buy at woot though. Random, cheap stuff.

The bags of crap were brilliant as it keeps a lot of people there during a woot off, but it really is just crap now. I would say it's still worth $8, but it's not at all worth having auto buyers and trackers going during a woot off. Most of the stuff ends up in the trash.

I like Woot. I've gotten a bunch of stuff from them. I like the refurb mp3 players. They make good gifts for my daughter to give away at parties. I also have a couple myself.

I check woot somewhat often, sometimes its everyday and then other times I kinda forget. They still have some good deals (Sandisk MP3 players, others I can't really think of). They do have plenty of stuff that I don't think anyone is really interested in, and obviously that stuff doesn't sell as well.

I do check shirt.woot as well, and sometimes buy a shirt. Half the time its just cool to see the shirt designs in their derby.

well there's a new association for elite and snob that I never thought I'd hear, especially here on ATOT.

seriously? Woot = elite/snob? rofl
