Is windows 7 going to have WinFS?

dx11
Regarding FS, I wouldn't really know but, they chopped it up and integrated parts of it into other applications such as sql2008 and ado.net with the statement that once it was ready it would be fully integrated into windows.

I would be extremely surprised if it did. I am of the impression that the real Windows 7 is going to be largely put on hold for the windows after that. They are just rushing to put something out that's similar to Vista without the Vista name attached. Difference between Vista and Windows 7 will likely be no larger than the difference between Windows 98 and 98SE.

The WinFS project was closed a while back, so WinFS as it was originally intended won't be appearing in Windows.

And what "real Windows 7," dguy6789? Windows 7 is coming along exactly as it was planned. From the start it was nothing but UX refinement, performance tweaks, some features and foundational work. As far as I know it's not being rushed no big features have been cut or put "on hold."

A quick google reveals this post marked 2-20-07:

As of now, the project is closed. Currently, Integrated Storage Strategy is
realized by including FILESTREAM support into KatMai, Entity Framework into
ADO.NET
vNext, and ADO.NET Synchronization Services. It is not clear at this
time would be there any new project like WinFS was.

As we know it WinFS, if not dead, is on what's best described as "indefinite hold."

The features of WINFS are pretty much already in Vista and will be in Windows 7. WINFS itself was scrapped because it was a huge drain on performance and there were more efficient ways to accomplish the goals of WINFS. (IE improved indexing is one of them.)

WINFS was not a new file system as some have concluded. It was a extension to NTFS and you should be glad it was dropped from the reports on it's problems.

DX 11 will be available for both Vista and Windows 7.
