i personally think windows 2000 is a peice of trash, atleast for athlon/a7v/geforce2 systems. it freezes periodically for no reason what so ever, too many bugs for this so called "stable" os.

i too am thinking about changing over to win2k. i noticed that someone mentioned about which file system to use. is there any advantages/disadvantages with using for example the NTFS on the same network as a win98 machine? or if you are dual booting between win98 and win2k ?

I switched from 98 to Windows 2000 Pro at work and at home. I think its probably the best operating system Microsoft has put out yet. I haven't had a problem yet installing software no matter what it says the preferred operating system is. At home I am using a cable modem and downloads seem to be a little faster now than when I had 98 installed. To fully see the good things that 2000 can do though you need a lot of ram and a fast processor.

W2K made a believer out of me too. I used to cuss out my dialup ISP for being slow & disconncting me all the time. Under W2K, I rarely get disconnected (by mistake) and my download max speed went from 4k/s to 5.2k/s (compared to 98SE).

If my (somewhat) high-end audio card & video capture card supported W2K, I would drop my WinME partition like a $2 ho.

Go for it!
