I just remembered, you can try this:
My brother in law used to have his windows tinted as dark as they could make 'em. He went to DOC and told the eye doctor that he drove to work towards the sun and it gave him headaches. He asked if the doctor could write a note that allowed him to have tint in his windows. The doctor didn't mind, and he wrote it on his DOC letterhead. He showed the note to cops and most let him go.
I tried this too and got out of about 4-5 instances when I got pulled over. However the last cop (when I finally stripped the tint) said I need to get it on my license, sort of like how it says you need "corrective lenses" if you wear glasses. He then told me that if you're caught driving without tint you might get a ticket for driving impaired. He could have just been being an ass, but it made sense to me. YMMV
